Taking Gen Chem 1 and 2 in the summer

I wouldn't do all three. Also, considering chem is fairly important to vet med basics and it is almost assumed that the amount of summer material does not always equal spring/fall material, ie: course goes too fast, does not cover all core subjects. IMO, earning the same grade in a fall/spring...

One bad semester, possible premature freakout

No big deal...one semester of B's will not hurt your science GPA or last 45hours (considering gen chem II- I figure you are a freshman in science credit standing). You can totally beat this next time. :)

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

"When you apply for a residency, you ARE choosing one area. As I have mentioned before, it's a bad idea to pursue a specialty in an area for which you do NOT feel an overwhelming passion. Residencies are extremely competitive and it is poor form to apply for more than one type of residency."...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

Only one choice? You can't apply to multiple programs through match? Ie. radiology, surgery, small animal, etc?

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

YAY! Thank you. Much clearer now. I am guessing some DVMs who don't get accepted into internship go on to work in the field, then come back the next year and re-apply? LOL...That would be a strange, but valuable change of pace, life, and income. The end would justify it, if it is allowed.

    Accepted in the U.K......now what??

Have you considered applying the next cycle for your in-state school? If it is just money, I would research everything you can regarding cost of living, work permit for your wife, visa, etc. I saw that the 2009 tuition was $36K, that is less than some US out of state schools, but cost of living...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

IMO, the cost of a DVM education is usually equal to cost of Med School. Physician income often exceeds DVM income, or so my med school friends brag and brag...and brag. They say they are not at all worried about med school loans because they are so positive that they will have starting income...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

Oh my Gosh, Thank you so much! You are so helpful. :) Do you automatically do the one year rotating internship at your DVM school? Is it by invite only? I guess I am assuming that a rotating internship should be done at a University where you can actually "rotate". Maybe not. Regarding...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

I want to know too! I posted about nutrition in here a while back and not many replies. I didn't even know it was a residency opportunity w/board certification. I thought it was a phD/research track. I honestly had no idea that it had potential for such high salary either. It's my field of...

    Vets and smoking

I smoked for 7 years, quit for 2, and started again after living with someone who also smokes. I smoke a lot less now than ever, but I still buy packs here and there- and clearly, that is beyond social smoking. I have every intention to quit before interviews, let alone vet school. So should...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

So, just to be sure, government and private loans do not allow for intern/resident loan deferrals- they require that DVMs start paying the minimum on their student loans after graduation? Well, if I am understanding this correctly, making 24K as an intern/resident could easily create a problem...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

38% of DVM grads go into specialty? Sounds like a good number of opportunities. I mean, hey, it's not 10%. As Bill59 said in another thread, a DVM usually has to do an internship (1 yr) and a residency (3 yr) to become a board certified specialist. Couple questions... 1.) Do the number of...

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

Where is education free? I suppose if someone is a dual citizen, this could work to their advantage, but I also assume that free education depends on years of residency in that country. Even then, maybe college is free, but masters/doctoral programs?

Vet School Student Debt out of control?

Factoring all of this together, I too hope to specialize, but I still don't even know how it all works. Would love some insight. Do all vet schools offer specialization or is that something you apply to after vet school and maybe through another program? Ok, so let's say, after vet school, if...

    Uf

From what I understand, they expect at least 500 hours, but most people seem to have more? How many do you think is good to have?
