MCAT 30 - but what is a URM?

An international student would have significantly reduced chances, agree Not sure about the URM definition though. I didn't realize that AMCAS differentiates between African vs. African American!

Cash practice in addition to other practice?

twright's post makes sense to me. At our program there were no clinics staffed by attendings. Basically, if a patient came to the clinic, s/he was to be seen by (a) one of the attendings in a private practice clinic, or (b) one of the residents in the resident clinic (with supervision by an...

    Board Certification in Psychiatry

Doesn't look like anyone picked this up. Probably won't help you, but for others: on my testing day I observed many men wearing full suits. However, I also observed a substantial minority wearing dark slacks, white shirt, and tie.

    May oral board

No question all of the factors you've highlighted are frustrating. It's clear that ABPN has structured their policies so as to minimize and discourage against any sort of post-exam feedback or contact.

    Did/do you moonlight?

Yes, psychiatry is pretty low risk relative to other specialties. http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMsa1012370

Another "what are my match chances" thread, and where to do "audition" electives

I don't think it would be completely worthless -- I just think it would be better if you did it earlier. At many top programs, if you are coming from a school they do not recognize then it helps if you do a rotation there and one of their own attendings puts their eyes on you. If you are an IMG...

Another "what are my match chances" thread, and where to do "audition" electives

I agree that you should not do your visiting rotations in Jan/Feb. That is way too late. You should really aim for Nov/Dec. If you have no choice but to do Jan/Feb, then it is what it is. I wouldn't waste your time with a neuro or radiology visiting rotation unless your primary purpose is to see...

    Did/do you moonlight?

$3500 per weekend is a nice rate. In my residency we were quoted something like $1500 per weekend, and where I work currently it is $2500 per weekend. I didn't do any moonlighting during residency, and I don't do it now. I just prefer to have more free time.

    May oral board

Could you clarify your question? Are you asking whether people who have failed the oral boards in the past and who took them in May -- whether they felt like the experience was any different compared to their previous attempts? I took the oral boards in May but this was my first time taking...

    oral boards -- interview attire?

Good question. Your question made me curious about this so I looked it up: For residents who began training as a PGY-1 before July 1, 2007 or as a PGY-2 before July 1, 2008: To become Board certified in Psychiatry, candidates must pass both the Part I (computer-administered) and Part II (oral)...

    oral boards -- interview attire?

FYI, I just took the boards (and passed! I was in the last cohort that used the old two-step format) and it looked to me like the distribution of dress among men was about 60% full suit, 40% shirt/tie & khakis. So if you wear a full suit you can't go wrong, but if you're trying to pack lightly...
