I agree that you should not do your visiting rotations in Jan/Feb. That is way too late. You should really aim for Nov/Dec. If you have no choice but to do Jan/Feb, then it is what it is. $3500 per weekend is a nice rate. In my residency we were quoted something like $1500 per weekend, and where I work currently it is $2500 per weekend. I didn't do any moonlighting during residency, and I don't do it now. I just prefer to have more free time.

FYI, I just took the boards (and passed! I was in the last cohort that used the old two-step format) and it looked to me like the distribution of dress among men was about 60% full suit, 40% shirt/tie & khakis. So if you wear a full suit you can't go wrong, but if you're trying to pack lightly...
