    MIPS QPP Coding

Anyone taken a penalty on MIPS up? For 2022 you could avoid penalty by attesting to a hardship due to the pandemic. FY2023 MIPS was just filed. We are likely to get some amount of penalty. Guess what. It is now almost impossible for pathologists to avoid a penalty. The system is set...

Johns Hopkins pathologist Jonathan Epstein has been on leave since May - The Washington Post

The allegations likely fall under the medical staff's code of conduct (CC). The main issue is often the physicians behavior. In this case there are questions of clinical care too. The outside reviewer seems to have cleared Epstein's diagnosis on his surgical pathology. The Joint Commission...

    Pathlink

I think PE is having trouble expanding right now due to higher interest rates. There may be some PE groups that have cash or lines of credit secured at lower interest rates. Hospital based groups that have a lot ER patients have gotten killed lately. Envision, the big ER group, is in...

    Tufts Gets Eaten by Labcorp

I have a successful rural practice. My pathology is only mildly impacted but LabCorp and Quest are huge out here too. The one stop shop is hard to fight. It is staff that has to fill out the requisition for the 1x or 2x a week skin biopsy at a primary care office. Then they have to call the...

    Pathologist overworked and burntout?

CV is not that important. Hopefully you can spot candidates that are reasonably independent. This is not something that residency and fellowship teaches these days

Private Practice Pathology Business Model in full collapse now

If this is true large private equity groups in RADS and Anesthesia are dead men walking already.

Lifestyle job vs mentally stimulating: your preference?

I am at a small hospital and have always had great interactions with Admin. That said. Hospitals can change services on a dime if they want to. Smaller independent hospitals might do this a little less than big ones.

Percent of collections a pathologist can expect to take home and lab director fee

If your truly providing daily management it should be worth a lot. That's a bit different than the typical director role. Lab managers can do a traveler gig and make over 200K to manage a lab these days.

Percent of collections a pathologist can expect to take home and lab director fee

Yes it sounds low to me too. It depends on the complexity and therefore your ability to handle the volume. 50% of the collected revenue may be bad or OK. It depends. What do they really collect? How much will end up in your pocket at the end of the day is what matters. Otherwise the...

    Sentinel Lymph Nodes/Lead Apron?

Correct. Your hands are not very sensitive to radiation. There is no real risk. The hospital usually will give you radiation badges to wear as part of radiation safety protocol. I never had one come back over limit. Tip Technetium-99 is the typical radio tracer. We fix our breast overnight...
