    SDN Blocked on government computers?

Over here in Iraq all forums/message boards are blocked on government computers. I think it has to do both with security and the use of bandwidth since it's limited.

I'm not sure about the deferment but I would recommend trying ca_dreamin's suggestion. The Army also does have a Loan Repayment program, but I am not sure how it works, you can get more info on it by going to www.dencom.army.mil and then in the right hand column of boxes there is one labelled...

X Branch & My Family = Best Situation

Military and family is tough, the military will always come first and if your family isn't willing to make that commitment then forget about it. You have to have your family's support to make it through the tough times.

PROFIS stands for the PROfessional FIller System, that is when you are pulled out of a clinic to be deployed. A field unit is a company, battalion, or brigade that you are assigned instead of a clinic, you will spend a good amount of time in the clinic and then the rest of your time training...

Surplus dentist if things quiet down?

The Dental Corps has been understaffed for over a decade, there probably never will be a surplus of dentists in the Army.

Beware of the recruiters, they are fudging the truth again. Only PROFIS tours are now 6 months, if you are assigned to a field unit you are still going for 15 months. The Army is definitely stretched thin right now, that's why they are calling people back and relying so heavily on the...

    active duty extension

My extension was because Alaska is considered an overseas tour and requires a 3 year tour, of course it would have been civil and acceptable if they had told be that before I volunteered to go to Korea for the sole purpose of following on to Alaska (where my wife was in practice). This year...

Regarding PROFIS vs TOE spots, you are more likely to go to a TOE spot after a 1 year AEGD.

new to... and interested in military dentistry

By easier I mean that military residency boards will take into account your on the job performance as much as your academic side. So even if you were not the best in your class you still have a chance at getting into the specialty of your choice.

HPSP Student Switching from One Branch of Service to Another

I would say it would be nearly impossible.

Couple things: Waiting lists: Occasionally you will get a slot off a wait list, but it isn't reliable. Reasons people may not go to a residency are: family doesn't want to move where the residency is, the applicant tosses in the application just in case he doesn't get out, etc. Pathology...

    Military Scholarship: Worth It?

Agree, it's a scholarship, not a loan so the quoted tax law doesn't apply. The US Army is not a qualified lender that checks your credit history and gives you a loan and repayment schedule.

    Signing Off

Hi everyone. Well, I'm finally getting ready to redeploy and I'm going to be really busy over the next few months getting settled back into a normal life. I'll try to check the forum out every once in a while but I'm not going to be able to check it as frequently as I have over the last few...

    Military Scholarship: Worth It?

We actually have a SGT here in the reserves that decided he couldn't cut it in dental school and quit his third year. His reserve time was his choice, not required, but he does have to pay back the Army for the full amount he was given while on the scholarship. I'm not sure if he also has to...

A 2 year will expose you to an awful lot of patients and experiences and if you really want to learn a lot about all field of dentistry it is a good way to go. Doing a two year would give the ability to have a wider scope of practice. Unfortunately, that experience won't correlate to as much...
