    Undercounted...?

This article is so confusing - and it was written by CAP members. In the discussion: "Correspondingly, pathology is “top heavy” in older physicians, contributing to a pathologist employment market that is already showing signs of supply shortage." The reference they use is another article Strong...

Anybody using assisted lymph node grossing techniques such as Cision Vision? Sounds like a super helpful concept!

    Should pathologists become unionized?

Interesting - it would have to be a union of all employed (W2) physicians, not just by specialty. I would use the example of a nurse's union Should I Join A Nurses Union? Pros And Cons For pathologists - unless employed by a medical center/hospital I don't think it's relevant. The decrease in...

    Crap jobs in Pathology

Pathologists in private practice who are junior to the partners also typically have 4 weeks or less vacation, and sick days taken out of vacation days (including maternity leaves).

    Pathologist misdiagnosis in the news

Just another plug for AI screening tools too....I've seen AI tools that pick up foci of tumor that the pathologist missed the first time around.

    Pathologist misdiagnosis in the news

+1 - agree that QA/QC issues are important - and also agree with the point to double check benign as well as malignant diagnoses - missing malignancy at the edge of a core in one level of the slide is also a recurring nightmare of mine

    Pathologist misdiagnosis in the news

https://www.kptv.com/2024/02/22/patients-informed-cancer-misdiagnoses-providence-reviews-pathologists-work/ Looks like the pathologist has about 20+ years in practice. This is why having confirmation with a second pathologist on malignant diagnoses (especially first time diagnoses) is important.

    Pathchat - an AI assistant!

I've found that the majority of these types discussions all lead to treatment options - which Heme/onc is more equipped to answer. Although some patients find the "explanation" of the histology helpful, most really want to know how it will impact treatment and prognosis. I think the helpful...

    Pathchat - an AI assistant!

Pretty cool stuff - still in experimental stage, but if it works out, it'll be easier than searching Google or rummaging through reference books https://arxiv.org/html/2312.07814v1

    Crap jobs in Pathology

Just wanted to add another perspective - The pathologists I know who have had major career issues due to job instability have all been in private practice (with the exception of one). My peers in academics are doing well - the dermpath folks I know who have a sizeable income because their...

    Crap jobs in Pathology

Primary care jobs are easy to fine because there are more of them - you need more primary care docs per capita than pathologists. Pathslides - what you have mentioned here are gross generalizations.

    Crap jobs in Pathology

Completely agree KP. This is after going through the several year "honeymoon" period of being out of training and landing a first job. The reality of the employment landscape in pathology is bleak - and it's something that academic training programs are clueless about. Most training program...
