What's the most rewarding part of your job?

I also love opera (my username is in fact an opera reference!) That sounds amazing - nothing like a Puccini score, imo. Enjoy!

Yeah, my argument against HiTOP is that it's not very feasible clinically. But, yes, I would not use that Reddit post as proof of that, lol.

Yup. Also, everything is trauma (so I guess in that case it isn't false to say that trauma causes personality disorders)

VA Mental Health Provider Venting / Problem-solving / Peer Support Thread

Also, yeah, I love when providers request that a patient be given an MMPI. That's not how testing works, lol

My last VA we used to have judges or the court require that patients do ART for PTSD in the VA. Our psychology chief would be like "Nope, not happening"

Yeah, my clinic would definitely say we don't do IFS, but we do PE, CPT, and EMDR so you can have one of those instead

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

Unfortunately I've seen two DBT programs collapse at VAs because administration was not supportive. They don't care about the research showing that DBT actually saves money, decrease overall utilization, etc. But, trying to keep this thread positive, DBT is a great program to have!

We were just told that we're limiting our number of intakes because of the current difficulties with f/u access. I'm in shock, i didn't know we'd ever actually do this. Just nice to know that sometimes change can happen.

I didn't know you were doing full model DBT! Super cool. It can work really well if your administration is supportive

What's the most rewarding part of your job?

Treating PTSD and seeing people actually get better. I love it, and it actually happens quite often.

    Neuropsych Internship chances

Portland is good - I did internship there and the neuro intern got a good post doc. I was supervised by neuropsychologists for a testing rotation and felt like I got good training. They also have some really cool PTSD/neuro stuff going on. But back when I applied they cared more about research...

    Social media presence

Go figure, right?? Also, I recall that we had this question on an exam in grad school (Clinical Personality Assessment, maybe?) where we were asked to pretend we were screening for a reality show and which personality styles (Millon, I want to say?) we would put together to get the most drama.
