    Litigation Risk Between Different Subspecialties?

Not that this is a subspecialty, but OB ultrasound is up there in terms of risk. Heard not too long ago that plaintiffs' attorneys are cooling on suing over mammo. It's enough of a Rorschach test that getting a consensus among expert witnesses is virtually impossible. No clue if that's...

Anyone who loved physiology, pharmacology, labs, ekgs, etc that went into radiology anyway?

My reasons have evolved over the years, and I would like to tell some grandiose story about how I fell in love with the field immediately. The truth is that as a medical student it boiled down to some pretty low rungs on Maslow's Hierarchy. I enjoyed the relative minute-by-minute control one can...

Anyone who loved physiology, pharmacology, labs, ekgs, etc that went into radiology anyway?

Loved physiology as a med student. Anatomy? Not so much. Never wanted to be a flea. Really tried to like anesthesiology, but just couldn't. Nearly two decades later, I definitely made the right choice with radiology. Sometimes you just have to do what you like...not what you're supposed to like.

    What is average signing bonus?

For those of us who entered the job market when it was in the toilet.

    Weird employment question

I'm far from an expert on this, but I suppose that I'll chime in, considering that there haven't been any other responses. I'm not sure where you got the idea that you have to be in the continental US to read for a group in the US. To the contrary, it's pretty common for people to read for east...

Increasing % of studies read by midlevels... what does this mean for the future?

I hope you said 'yes'. I'd like to hear how the conversation with the vascular surgeon went.

It's official: AI is more accurate than radiologists when it comes to reading mammograms

It's smart of you to think of a timeline beyond what you see everyday while in training. It seems like so many of us only focus on the next step or two, which--in this context--means overly weighting the lives and careers of the residents and academic attendings when picking a specialty. I...

Tennessee is now allowing FMG's to practice without a US residency, any chance outsourcing becomes a legit concerning for radiology now?

I don't think you're missing anything. I don't see any reason why this affects radiology more so than any other specialty. The problem with "outsourcing" radiology, which I will take to mean "offshoring" in this context, was never licensure or even certification. It's compensation. If CMS ever...

    New DR oral board exam

As someone who took the oral boards, I'm glad to hear this. Surprised, but glad. I hope they keep it at the Executive West/Crown Plaza near the Louisville airport so that radiologists young and old can share stories. ETA: Well, crap. Just saw that they plan to administer it remotely. Too bad...

    Job listing

Reading between the lines, I think I am familiar with this practice. It is an extremely busy, but well run, practice in a less than desirable location, even by Alabama standards. The buy-in is considerable, as in it will be higher than your mortgage (even if you buy the mansion that most people...

    Derm vs rads?

When comparing jobs, I find it more useful to conceptualize time off in terms of total shifts, rather than vacation time, etc.. Obviously, this works better the more alike the jobs are otherwise, and clearly some people would rather work 12 hours a day in a derm clinic than 6 hours in front of a...

Do you know anyone who was fired from radiology residency?

I'm not sure why you left out the first sentence of the paragraph you quoted, because it sounds like your experience is in keeping with mine, to wit, you had other people (most importantly your PD) that were on your side. I'm sure the experience was frustrating and anxiety-producing, but it also...

Do you know anyone who was fired from radiology residency?

I've been around/involved in a number of dismissals for a variety of reasons. Two were because they just didn't possess the ability to be a radiologist. This is rare, but it occasionally happens that an otherwise intelligent, capable physician just isn't wired to process medical imaging. I was...

    Private Practice Shifts from Home

We do our weekends from home, minus the occasional procedure. We also almost always finish our late shifts from home, assuming there's enough of a break in the action to get there.

    Mammography lifestyle

We're very quickly approaching the limit of my knowledge about this particular situation, but I do know that the imaging center was owned by a radiologist and now is owned by a radiologists-owned private practice. That is a lot of cheese to give up, but people seemed to think it was worth it to...
