    Personal Statement

Nobody wants to read a novel, so keep it relatively short. A few paragraphs stating a little about your history leading up to this point in your life, why you're interested in ortho, and maybe where you see yourself in the future. Or use it to clarify anything in your application. It really...

It sounds like you do not have any functional limitations, so you should be fine.

Advice on prioritizing - Research, courses, Step 1

The type of research is not as important as just doing it.

    Ortho Lifestyle

Speaking of wasting time, I just noticed the following message from Fuarky in my inbox: Please read your posts with the same titles. I appreciate your enthusiasm, but like I mentioned in those posts, there are 168 hours a week, which leaves me about 88 to spend on things other than work...

    Ortho Lifestyle

It's all about priorities. There are 168 hours in a week. 168 minus hours your work = free time. If you want to lift that badly, you will use those remaining hours to do so. Some of us like to sleep, some do research, some watch tv, etc.

    The drawbacks of orthopedic surgery?

My definition of a foot/ankle specialist is a fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon, not a podiatrist. That is what I am talking about. I edited the previous post to reflect this.

    The drawbacks of orthopedic surgery?

And I hope I don't have a pilon or talar neck fracture in a town where these are treated by a podiatrist. I'd rather the on-call physician puts a frame on it or splints it and sends me to a real expert. An experienced orthopaedic traumatologist or orthopaedic foot/ankle surgeon.

    Asking for research opportunities

Of course they will be receptive. It's always nice you have medical students who want to participate in research. You don't cost the lab anything, and can be very helpful and productive.

can i be orthopedic surgeon with this vision

If your vision can be corrected to 20/20 then you should be fine. If not, then I would advise you choose another specialty for the benefit of your patients. Just because we want to be something does not always mean we should.

    PT to MD to Ortho

It sounds like you have a lot of intangibles like work in the healthcare field, research, leadership etc. Now it depends on your grades and MCAT scores. Take the test, apply, and cross your fingers.

Future of Orthopaedic Surgery and salaries

Nobody knows. The future of healthcare and especially reimbursement is a guessing game. I can assure you it's not going up though. Excel in high school and college, then re-evaluate. We may have a better idea in 8 years.

    Peds Ortho

Peds is a good field for people who like variety, but the downsides are lots of call usually, pediatric spine and deformity, neuromuscular patients, and dealing with overanxious parents... "My child started walking last week and he looks like he is limping, what's wrong with him." If those...
