    ABIM Vs. Dr Salas

You are missing the point. Who gave all these boards (including ophthalmology) the unilateral authority to hold your medical license (and practice) hostage if you don't pay for the MOC? Are you happy knowing that your MOC fees are used by an un-elected group of individuals to support their...

    ABIM vs. Jaime Salas

http://www.doctorsjustice.com/ Medical boards are meant to elevate physician standards but behave like for-profit cartels. Support this colleague. His case can have major implications regardless of specialty.

What is the difference between DMO and UMO

None. I guess the "DMO" title is given to you after completing dive school in Panama City. You get the UMO designator after graduating from NUMI in Groton, CT. I do know someone who got certified to perform UMO duties at a Sub Squadron without completing navy diving training. You could...

    Call reimbursement

    best glaucoma fellowships

The best fellowship is the one that has good surgical numbers and in my case, provided a decent wage. If you just want a good name for a potential academic job regardless of low surgical numbers and crappy pay, then go to some of the institutions already mentioned. I would say UAB would be...

    Solo Practice

I am trying to gather which equipment to get: 1)Octopus 900 (sounds like the way to go) 2)Fundus camera, which one Nidek vs. Zeiss. 3)Lasers: Probably don't need them right away but I cut my flap sutures with argon laser. Any good options? 4)OCT SD: Zeiss 5000 vs. Spectralis (super...

    letters from PhD

I think having that PhD letter will certainly help since you will also have 2 other letters from MD’s. The application process is not an “all or none” process. You have to generate an application that will set you apart and having a GREAT letter from a researcher is a good way to do it. The...

Taking time off between residency and fellowship

I wouldn’t do it. I would either commit to a fellowship or do comprehensive. It might be difficult to go back to fellowship pay once you start making a better salary as comprehensive doc. Also, consider the potential surgical skill atrophy if you take time off to do something else.

    Solo Practice

Thanks man. I'm a glaucoma doc so I'll probably need an SLT/HVF/camera/OCT from the beginning. I'll defer the Yag/Argon cost since local hospitals have them. I guess my biggest weakness is generating the business plan and will probably use some help for that. I can find a local broker and...
