Class of 2016: What was the primary reason you chose the school you did?

Yah. I should have at least added an "other" option but ypu can't change the poll after you create it :(

Class of 2016: What was the primary reason you chose the school you did?

The application season is coming to an end and we have either decided what school to go to or have a pretty good idea. So I'm just curious why you made the decision you did.

    How Important is Non-Clinical Volunteering

What's most important is that you can sit in an interview or write a personal statement and talk about experiences that demonstrate the positive qualities you are claiming to have.

    Questions About Multiple Acceptances

Fill out financial aid stuff! They use that to decide some scholarships - if one school offers you one it may make your decision between the two easier.

    asking for LORs

It depends on the prof. Do what you would usually do if you had a question you need to talk to them about. All my letter writers had true open door policies and I walked by their office 5 times a day anyway. With an appointment you know they'll have time - if in doubt make an appointment...

    Opinions on these LOR?

With writer #1 - ask now. Give him a deadline (4-6 weeks away) "I would like to have the letter by XYZ..." A week before for the deadline followup to "see if there is any additional information you can provide to help him" as a reminder. After the deadline you can start gently reminding him that...

    Opinions on these LOR?

First, reconsider the gift card. Writing LORs for students is an expected part of a professors job. I think a heartfelt thank you after they have written them is probably a much better way to say thank you. Most of them will be more touched by knowing that what they have done for you (LORs...

    Writing a letter of intent

On email vs hand written, email is probably better for a letter of intent that will be added to a file but for thank you's I would go with hand written. The advantage of hand written is that you can make it memorable. The last thing I want to do is blend in with every other email that person...

    Retake Biology or O-Chem?

+1 It will be easier to get an A in freshmen bio but I don't think you need to retake anything.

    Going back to CC

I think you'll be just fine. Keep the CC courses to lower level ones though. There are many people who do similar things. Doing what you think is best for your education is most important.

    Paying for GA-PCOM

Live frugally. Apply for every scholarship available. Borrow as little as you can get by with but don't cut corners to the point that your studies are effected.

What letters of rec to use?

Before I say anything else, the best LORs are from people who know you well and have seen you perform, write well and have experience writing LORs, have advanced degrees, and most importantly really like you. That being said, you don't really know how good a letter is without seeing it. The...
