    Secondary Polycythemia

Already getting those unfortunately. I try to get them off “T” but again…..deaf ears.

    Secondary Polycythemia

New attending here. Hoping to get some advice from those of you practicing for a while. I just started a job in a somewhat rural setting. I get a lot of Heme referrals from PCPs, pulmonologists, etc for patients for polycythemia. These are almost always known tobacco abuse cases, COPD, etc. We...

    Private Practice versus Hospital Employed

Not exactly. In PP in which you partner and have stake in infusion revenue, you could see the same number of patients as Hospital Employed and make way more.

Heme/Onc Job Offer for a new graduate

I’m very much new to this as well, but Hospital employed positions typically use the RVU module. True private practice with partnership opportunity may pay a base but after that you make partner and have stake in revenue for the practice. Hospital employed positions pay $90-150 per wRVU for...

    fellowship after primary care

Quality of life will vary by fellowship program, but generally speaking, the 1st 18 months of fellowship can be tough You may adapt well given your experienced as an independently practicing physician. I'd say apply and see what interviews you get, you can find out from other fellows during...

Rituximab and risk of HBV re-activation

Conventional wisdom is that you weigh the pros and cons, prior infection vs vaccination. Some patients do end up getting Hepatitis B viral prophylaxis while on anti CD20 therapy. Hope this helps.

    Heme/Onc Job Offer Discussion

Ditto, I keep telling myself that it will be more efficient when I'm not limited by an attending but it seems like a lot from the fellow perspective.

    Heme/Onc Job Offer Discussion

Can someone break this math down to us clueless fellows? Does that mean salary = [$110X770]-(monthly overhead) X12?

    Potential offers, need advice

I don't have an answer to your question but I'm reassured that a new graduate is being offered close to MGMA median for salary. Are you in your final year? How soon did you start looking and interview? How many people are they expecting yo to see each day?

Telemedicine and the impact on fellowship training?

Not much if at all. By March when the world changed we were already 9 months into fellowship. It probably would have been worse if the pandemic started in the Fall.

Telemedicine and the impact on fellowship training?

This is completely dependent on Attending. I've spoken to patients using each of of the scenarios you describe. I think going forward, prevalence of disease will dictate how long we do telemed. Some places are already seeing physical patients again with hospital precautions in place. Anyone on...

    Hematology/Oncology 2019-2020 Fellowship Season

Everything matters for fellowship match, Med School and Residency more than anything else. A failure on CS is an easy way for alot of programs to filter applicants BUT if an application is otherwise strong, a failure on CS and poor step 3 wont be the end all.

    Patient demographics

Your best chance at this age group is to be the ALL or Germ Cell guy in an academic center. Those malignancies typically occur in younger patients but not always. If you go into private practice you will definitively have to see old patients. Transplant patients also tend to be "younger", so you...

    Tips for incoming Hem/Onc fellows?

Buckle up, have your Uptodate and NCCN log-in's handy, on your phone if you can. Don't feel discouraged, the learning curve is steep ad you'll look and feel like an idiot for the first few months. This is normal. The study resources you should use depend on your learning style. You may get a...
