    Civilian --> Military Career

What state are you in? What kind of medical condition (can you run 2 miles, do push ups, planks?)? Don't join the Active Duty medical corps. Consider the Reserves, it makes more sense for folks like you.

    Forming a LLC for a 1099 job?

Yeah, I agree, thanks for the input.

    Forming a LLC for a 1099 job?

Exactly. So the cost of setting up a LLC (probably) is not worth it. Better for a single member to just remain a sole proprietor, right?

    Forming a LLC for a 1099 job?

So, let say you have your main job (W2 ~$350K/yr). Let's say your 1099 side hustle is good for $250/yr. (So your total income would be $600k/yr) Does it make sense to LLC your 1099 job, or just stay a sole proprietor?

    Question on HPSP

That's b/c they're stupid. Doctors tend to be very stupid people, look how we learn. A long time ago, I made it a rule to avoid 5-figure hobbies (cars, boats, etc). Keep your hobbies in the 4-figure range (golf, guitar, skiing, etc).

Advice for US DO with Heme Onc Interest

First, be a good resident. Be punctual, well-read, work hard, be polite, don't drink and drive, mind your genitals, don't pick fights. Second, do Heme/Onc rotations (both inpatient and outpatient), find good mentors, figure out if it really is what you want to do. Third, apply.

I'm quitting residency - any legal/logistical issues I need to worry about?

Your point is taken. I don't mean to say specifically there's a psych diagnosis there, maybe I used the wrong vernacular. What I meant to say is that most of those things are a reaction to some mental state (acute stress, anxiety, etc), and all of this can certainly occur in the absence of any...

I'm quitting residency - any legal/logistical issues I need to worry about?

It is. There's no such thing as CFS, IBS, Fibromyalgia, long COVID. These are all made up diagnoses or syndromes, that we made up b/c we don't want to admit (and we don't want to try to explain to our patients, fearing their wrath) that they are manifestations of acute on chronic mental...

    HPSP For Competitive Specialities

    Well, that was easy.

    HPSP For Competitive Specialities

Impressive that you've put that much thought and effort into this. Very astute. When I was a 3rd year pre-med, I was too busy (chasing tail and the next bottle) to think of such things. Go to business school. You don't want to be a doctor nor be in the military. When your initial inquiry...

MD (USUHS) vs DO school (DMUCOM) with HPSP?

All true. But most of this is us, the MC, crapping on itself. It's not the line military devising ways to make physicians unhappy. Look I'd advocate for shutting down most of the MTFs and turning most of the MC into a reserve force.

MD (USUHS) vs DO school (DMUCOM) with HPSP?

Sounds like you're very entitled and weren't cut out for it in the first place. Of course the military doesn't care about you specifically, it's not supposed to. Get over it. The military is warfighting unit, much bigger than you. You have to understand that going into it. You have to...

    Selective service and residency

No, you're not screwed. All able body males are required to register, in case there's a draft. The likelihood of a draft is very slim. You're more likely to be struck by lightning.

MD (USUHS) vs DO school (DMUCOM) with HPSP?

That's a very different question. The delta between 4-yr HPSP commitment vs 7-yr USU can be small and somewhat even trivial. The delta between 0-yr commitment (ie no military service at al) vs. 7-yr USU commitment is MUCH more significant. In this case, and especially if you're having...

MD (USUHS) vs DO school (DMUCOM) with HPSP?

I vehemently disagree. The more doors and advantages of being an MD are worth the extra 3 year commitment. 3 years is nothing (again, =1 tour), as compared to your remaining 30 years of practice. Why get pigeon-holed into a primary care specialty when you might have the opportunity to do...
