Thoughts on levetiracetam (Keppra) dosing for epilepsy?

Hello everyone, Curious about your thoughts on something for those who have prescribed levetiracetam. Have any of you tried using the “pulse” dosing method (described here), which involves only using the medication at a higher dose immediately following and in the 48 hours after an epileptic...

PhD/PsyD APPIC Internship Interview Invitation Thread (2019)

Would anyone who got an interview to UCSF mind sharing if they got an interview to any other track besides the Child Clinical Interventions and Assessment Cluster? Wondering if any other tracks went out. No need to reveal which track you got and feel free to pm, thanks!

    DoD vs. VA jobs?

Hello all, There is a lot of talk in this forum about the VA and the pros and cons of VA internships, post-docs, and careers. However, depending on location, VA jobs are often highly sought after and pretty competitive to attain. I was wondering if anyone in here could speak to the pros and...

PhD/PsyD EPPP - How to Prepare, Practice, & PASS

Hello everyone! Wondering if I could get some EPPP advice. I have been studying for about six weeks thus far and have been using the Psychprep materials given to me by a friend. My study approach has been twofold: I’ve been going through each chapter and making copious flashcards for key...

    Shulkin Out as VA Secretary

Any idea how privatization would affect hiring of psychologists / retention of current psychologists? Similarly, how the Veterans Choice program affects psychologists at the VA? Also, as a side note: I would be curious to hear thoughts on how the VA mental health expansion bill, which is...

    Yalom's psychotherapy training videos website

Thank you for posting! Our clinic has a site license for this site and I've also found it pretty useful. Also, Jon Carlson's mullet in some of those videos is kind of amazing. In terms of CPT and PE, here are a few resources with videos...unfortunately I can't post the direct links on here. But...

PhD/PsyD sitting on two job offers

IMHO, from experience, anything over a 1 hour commute tends to have large negative effects on my self-care and happiness, in one way or another. I'd go with the less commute if possible--you'll thank yourself later. Especially if starting a family is a priority to you.

Is there any money in social work?

Just my two cents, but I think an LCSW can be a very versatile degree and your degree of success will depend highly on how good you are at marketing, what your niche is, whether you see children or adults, and how competent you are. I have friends who are social workers who make 40k and others...

    Is PsyD a mistake?

@psy2019 , does it make the debt a lot more manageable if you stick with the VA for a while and do a loan repayment program? Not sure how they work exactly but I imagine the VA would be highly desirable for people who attended professional schools to offset debt?

PhD/PsyD Applying to Post-Doc via Snail Mail? Really?

I am personally struggling with this as well. Several of my sites required my to snail mail apps. So frustrating! And also awkward to need to ask your letter write for a copy of their letter

PhD/PsyD Best places to get a PhD? (general psychology)

I think it requires some reflection on your part to think about your goals for graduate school. Do you want to be a clinician? A researcher? Is going to a top name institution important to you (perhaps it might be a super high stress environment). I agree with everyone else--fit is key
