Official: UMichigan Class of 2007 Thread

I don't really know that much about the curriculum, but I can give you a few pointers about the area. 1. Ann Arbor is a great college town, cool people, cool things to do. Also, as far as housing goes, it can be quite expensive. I'd suggest looking for some roomies and renting a house or...

    good $ in peds?

statistically, pediatrics is THE least paying medical specialty. Though you must note the differnce between peds and pediatric(other specialty such as oncology) In this example a pediatric oncologist is an internist (possibly dual boarded in peds) who completed a oncology fellowship and...

    Living in Detroit

there are a lot of nice places to rent in grosse pointe park at very reasonable prices. It's only about a 10-15 minute drive downtown, via jefferson. check out the classifieds in the free press, or in the grosse pointe news

    What does a Hematologist-Oncologist do?

typically, a person who has completed a hemo/oncology fellowship practices mainly oncology. The lifestyle of an oncologist can be very good, depending on how established your practice is. I would think that it would be a highly stressful field though, having to deal with so much death.

What are the most popular residencies for FMG's?

I know that most FMG's obtain IM residencies but what are some other common ones? I've heard that as many as 50% of current anest. residents are FMG's, any truth to this?

    Rads vs. Anesthesia

I think that anest. is less competive due to the uncertain job outlook. With the influx of CRNA's the number of anesthesiologists needed is decreasing. As for the prestige of the field, I think it is comparable to radiology. I think both tend to be looked down upon by surgeons and other...

    Retake a class - GPA?

From what I understand they average the two grades, however the aacomas (osteopathic) counts only the 2nd grade.

    vascular surgery

my good friends dad is a vascular surgeon at a busy level 1 trauma center in detroit. From what i've heard he works some horrible hours. He is often called in the middle of the night to do surgeries that can last up to 12 hours, then goes to work on the surgeries he already had scheduled for...

    Science Grades

Thanks for the input. I just found out my grades for last semester. I ended up getting a C in my chemistry class. I am glad it wasn't anything less, and I realize it isn't exactly up to pre-med standards. However, I got an A- in my Bio 2 class (done with bio now). I did well in my other...

    Science Grades

I just found out the grade on my chem final, which I took on tuesday morning, and I was not pleased at all. It looks like I may get a C- in the class. My question is do medical schools require that you get atleast a C in the required science courses? If that is the case I will take the class...

how cold is it in Michigan?

I'm near Grand Rapids,MI which generally gets fairly severe winters because we are so close to lake Michigan. Although it's December 9th and we still haven't gotten any snow. Last week we had temperatures up into the high 60's but it got pretty cold over the weekend. I'd say if you're coming...
