The problem is differentiating what the lesion CAN cause, and what it DOES cause... As a neuro-oncologist, I see many patients with asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic huge frontal lobe lesions...

What is your long-term goal? Academics or private practice? Do you define a good neurology program as one capable of turning you into a good neurologist, or one that will look good on your resume and set you up for academic success? The answers to these questions matter significantly when...

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen an internist carrying anything but a Taylor "tomahawk" hammer. As long as you don't EVER try to use the side of your stethoscope, you will be fine.

Nothing aside from neuropathic pain medications and a detailed exam to follow their weakness (and decide whether it warrants surgery). It's not so much that neurologists feel unqualified to treat musculoskeletal back pain, as that it really doesn't have anything to do with the nervous system...

I had to google to even learn what that was!

Personally, I am happy to help in the management of radiculopathy, symptomatic spinal stenosis, and other situations where the back pain has clear neurological implications, but I don't think of musculoskeletal back pain as being within the realm of neurology.

You are perfectly welcome to cancel interviews. Just do it well in advance so they can fill the day with someone else. It's last-minute cancellations that irritate people.

I'm with Suenya. There is a difference between when you can refer to yourself as a neurologist when speaking to a patient, and when you can go out and have stationary printed...
