You most definitely have to be ACLS certified.

    IR procedures checklist

As a resident you may get plenty of experience as a first operator placing lines or draining abcesses or doing biopsies. For anything more involved you will need to do a fellowship to gain sufficient experience as the primary operator. Some residencies will let you get hands on experience with...

IR will be very similar to Opthalomology, Orthopedics, and ENT in 10-15 years

I'm a big fan of IR too, especially the onc, but Um dude, there is no one by that name at Hopkins. For a guy who claims to know a lot about IR, you should know that Geschwind is the big dog at JH. On auntminnie, you also quoted Darcy (presumably from WashU) about future happenings in IR, it...

Justification of Radiolgist reads in certain instances

You wanna read films yourself? Then read all of the films, and you deal with the liability yourself as well. Don't pick and choose the easy, low liability stuff and dump the rest on a radiologist. If you don't like it, and want the films yourself, then you deal with the 2 am dobhoff tube...

    Future of surgery

Kim I'm with you on this. BTW, In the cardiology forum he posted ":thumbup:Cardiologists win over radiologists!" Can't figure out if he is just a Troll, clueless, or both? I think he may get a rise out of seeing people respond to his posts. He posts quasi-inflammatory statements on...

How is it any different from plastic surgery?

In the same way is stuffing your bra is not Plastic surgery even though "You're still using something mechanical etc., to alter your physical appearance".

    awesome!

The answer is D none of the above. The real winner is the bariatric surgeon who gets paid in cash and does his cases from 9-5 electively, doesn't have to deal with the often uninsured, Trauma population at 3 am.

Any rads residents who came into med school only wanting rads?

Well it sounds like you've done your homework. You have a back up plan and you have some financial means. Knowing that and knowing what the risks are, go for it! Good luck!

    awesome!

Um that sounds fascinating, but after everything was said and done, did the patient actually make it?

    First 2 weeks in Practice

Wow, How the hell did I miss this thread? I'm just a radiologist, but man your story about building a solo practice from the ground up, on your own terms is fascinating! Beats any episode of Dr. 90210 (ok thats not saying much), but nice job and good luck! Please keep us posted.

    Interventional Radiology

If you work hard, get the right letters, know the right people, you will get the fellowship spot that you want. I agree. For those that like working with their hands, IR is great. Most procedures are quick compared to most surgeries with instant results. Most cases are not too involved in the...

Any rads residents who came into med school only wanting rads?

Agree with above. Medschool is a huge sacrifice, both financially and personally. It WILL likely strain your relation ship with your wife. Is it worth it? You like the "idea" of radiology, but do you know what radiology actually is? How did you even find out about radiology? There isn't a whole...
