    Georgetown SMP 2011-2012

I gotta second this - congrats to all. I loved my time there and really owe everything I have accomplished to date to Gtown's SMP. If you have been waitlisted, make sure you let the directors know how interested you are in the program. If you got waitlisted, that means you are competitive...

Very inconsistent student - looking to get into Georgetown SMP

Heatmist, You've gotten a lot of good feeback on here. I just want to add my perspective. I was a f-up in college too. I didn't have four F's, but I did have several D's. My overall GPA was sub 3.0 and so was my Sci GPA. One thing that *might* explain your 3.1 GPA - do you realize...

    Georgetown SMP 2010-2011

Yeah, I'd be happy to do that. Right now, I'm just finishing up interviewing for residency, so I'm a little busy... if you haven't gotten a reply from me in a couple days, pm me and I'll post. I should have a lot more free time coming up...

    Georgetown SMP 2010-2011

See my sig below for a link to the Yahoo group Guju is talking about. Dr. Myers, who is one of the head honchos there, as well as other admins from the program regularly reply to questions...

U of M at Ann Arbor acgme accreditation

I got this same email and had the same concerns as the OP. Certainly, Michigan is a great program and any program can get a 3 year cycle instead of five for any number of reasons. However, I was given the same advice originally by my PD as the OP was - avoid 3 year accredidations...

    Georgetown SMP, Class of 2010

Hey all - DrJD does an outstanding job answering the questions and his advice is spot on. I just wanted to add my 2 cents to help everyone who is out there on the SMP waitlist or admitted to the program and getting nervous about applications to med school. For those on the waitlists...

    Official:Georgetown SMP Class of 2009

Hey all - Congrats on being called off the waitlist! I just wanted to address one possible concern people may be having: No question, it is a lot to deal with trying to adjust to moving to DC, getting a place to live and then dealing with Medical School classes - all at the last minute...

    Official:Georgetown SMP Class of 2009

Tac, One small correction - the Rosslyn GUTS no longer runs to Leavey, it now goes to the undergrad side of campus next to the football field and the undergrad dining hall. So students now have to walk up the hill to get to the med school. They just changed that this past year. Congrats...

what are the disadvantages to doing an SMP?

Kateycat, There is nothing wrong with doing an SMP for the reasons you listed. It will definitely prepare you for medical school like you wouldn't believe. It is not only for raising a GPA, but that is what the vast majority of people use it for. The thing to keep in mind is that if you...

what are the disadvantages to doing an SMP?

Postbacker, 1. If this person is a troll, report it and let the mods handle it 2. If the poster is not, let's try to stay positive in this forum, ok? We're better than that. But you are correct in that, if the OP can get in the 30's with a 3.7 or so GPA, he/she should not go to an...

what are the disadvantages to doing an SMP?

I'm gonna step in on this one: I'd disagree with your limits on your GPA's there. Certainly, the higher you are, the better shot you have. However, I have PLENTY of friends who have below a 3.5 and got into med school the year of the program. Those who didn't, are getting in now the year...
