Surgical Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Interview Thread - 2024

How will you all deal with scheduling interviews if you get more than you can reasonably handle? Will you drop interviews lower on your list or just stop scheduling new ones? what's an appropriate amount of notice to give a program if you are going to drop an interview

    Trauma Surgery/ACS attending lifestyle

do you see the field trending towards shift work model?

    Trauma Surgery/ACS attending lifestyle

Yeah, my hospital does the combined emergency general surgery. The attendings rotate through trauma, ACS and ICU (usually they cover ICU/ACS at the same time). I just wanted to get more details and specifics, because there really isn't that much info out there for this field

    Trauma Surgery/ACS attending lifestyle

I did a year as a scribe before school and recently did a month rotation as well

    Trauma Surgery/ACS attending lifestyle

I did a month long trauma surgery rotation as an MS3 and loved it. I went in thinking I was 100% EM, but I found that trauma combined the critical patient aspect of EM with the occasional emergent surgical management of GS. I even enjoyed the more medicine long term care. Now I'm torn on what to...

    Competitiveness for top EM programs?

Hi all, I have a quick question about EM programs. I have a strong desire to match in the southwest region for EM. I just got my step 1 back, 235 satisfied with my score overall, but middle of the pack for EM. From my little understanding, most of the residencies in the SW are competitive. I...

Improving a weak subject over summer?

I finished up MS1 year last week. Right now I'm doing a research project but there is a gap as we are submitting so I'm really just hanging out at home doing nothing. During the year I was consistently an above average student sitting mostly in the top 30%-40% of my class and occasionally...

    Starting a needle exchange program

You are right NYS doesn't allow independent NP practice. Debating the benefits and downside of NP independence doesn't help me further my project and isn't something I'm interested in doing

    Starting a needle exchange program

No, you are probably right I won't ask an NP. I have much greater access to physicians at my university. But for the sake of completeness, NP is an option. Also, more and more states are allowing NPs to practice and prescribe independent of physician oversight. Last time I saw it was 21 states

    Starting a needle exchange program

The law, as I understand it, states that someone with the authority to prescribe or distribute hypodermic needles can oversee the program. I believe that NPs and pharmacists have that authority so I stand by the term "provider." Drug addiction and recovery is something that has personally...

    Starting a needle exchange program

Thank you, wonderful insight! My idea is to offer at least literature or counseling on proper needle care and information on what services are available for testing, rehab and detox. While I certainly support clean needles for disease prevention, ideally I would like to be able to impact the...

    Starting a needle exchange program

I would love to do it through the emergency medicine department because I have an interest in EM and I've gone to a few EMIG events. I'm just not sure if there is a certain person (department chair etc.) that I should try first or just do a shotgun approach and seeing if there is any interest

    Starting a needle exchange program

Hi all! Im an MS1 looking to get involved in my new city. Addition and recovery services is something really close to my heart. I want to get involved and an area that interests me is a needle/syringe exchange program. The city that my school is in has a high homeless and drug use population...

    Pre M1 summer program

I will be moving across the country for school so the idea of getting settled before school starts is appealing. If I can figure out how I effectively study and methods that work for me it could be a huge plus to starting school on the right foot. But I also understand how precious the summer...
