G2211 add-on--when are you using it?

I'm pretty sure this still doesn't work. You can't bill it with a modifier 25 regardless of what the add on is. https://www.aafp.org/news/blogs/inthetrenches/entry/2024-mpfs-g2211-win.html

Please convince me to stick to FM and not pursue IM

I think if I could give ever medical student/resident one piece of advice only--it would be to learn that stuff now. I think White Coat investor does a great job. I haven't used other sources to compare. But Dr. Dahle really does a good job of breaking it down, and it's designed around...

Please convince me to stick to FM and not pursue IM

300K is kind of the magic number in my mind. I've never hit 400K. I've really only worked as a hospitalist until recently. I switched to outpatient in November. Out of residency, I was making in the 330's. At my max, I've hit 370's a couple of times. It's great. We live very comfortably...

Please convince me to stick to FM and not pursue IM

I agree with all of this. We get a lot of the "I have a UTI, can you send in abx" calls. Sorry, that's going to require a visit. "My BP is 160's, do I need more BP medicine?" Sure, come on in. But the minor lab abnormalities, and diflucan sort of stuff, I wouldn't be able to talk to...

G2211 add-on--when are you using it?

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. That really helps. Are the examples out of the CMS manual? Is there a link to access that? We have a Primary Care meeting tonight to discuss this and if we're able to do it for acute visits for sinus congestion and such--I want the others to be aware...

Please convince me to stick to FM and not pursue IM

I switched to primary care in November and have really tried to implement this from the start. I'm honestly surprised at the number of people that call in for something they haven't been seen for recently and expect us to address it over the phone.

Please convince me to stick to FM and not pursue IM

I’m FM. I made the same as my IM counterparts. You’ll hit 300K easily as a hospitalist regardless of FM/IM. I recently switched to outpatient clinic. I think the ability to see Peds is a nice bonus.

G2211 add-on--when are you using it?

I just moved to primary care in November, so I'm still learning a lot of things on the go. The G2211 code was brought up recently by our organization. They sent us a tipsheet, but it's really vague. When are you using it? How often or what % of chronic visits. Do you ever use it for acute...

How to keep sharp and update on medical knowledge post residency and board exam! Feeling like a fraud as a junior faculty!

I started as a hospitalist 6 years ago, and felt so overwhelmed. It's terrifying being the adult in the room. I thought I wasn't good enough/smart enough. But I kept people alive. I probably over-consulted at the start. But I learned from every consult. And unless it required a procedure...

Any other hospitalists become jaded and terrified of lawsuits that you just panscan everyone?

To the actual intent of the post: I started ordering MRI's that were ridiculous when the patient's family pushed for them. Usually in the setting of delirium where the Stroke isn't going to explain their behavior/confusion. But so help me, someone in 2 weeks will do an MRI and that doctor...

Any other hospitalists become jaded and terrified of lawsuits that you just panscan everyone?

Anytime you hear chest pain+back pain, you have to rule out dissection. You'll lose this lawsuit 100% of the time. I'm not taking sides or judging the medical decision making. I wasn't there. For all I know the patient never actually said back pain. But for CYA purposes--if you have that...

Hospitalist Medical Director and Assistant Medical Director Questions

I work for Team Health, so I can give you a rough idea on that. The Medical Director is SUPPOSED to work 10 shifts/month. And then Admin time. You're paid a Director stipend to off-set the loss of shifts. Basically, you make the same as a FTE while working 10 shifts+admin time. There's...

    UpToDate for ABFM CME

This is correct for AAFP. ABFM is obviously a separate entity and has no such statement.

    UpToDate for ABFM CME

I was messing around with their system last night and submitted it. I'll let you know if they come back and say anything haha.

    UpToDate for ABFM CME

I always assumed it was Category 1 under G G- Other CME activities carrying AMA Category I CME or AAFP prescribed CME credit, such as documented point of care learning, participation in quality improvement projects, etc.
