PTCAS Personal Statement Prompt for 2024-25

APTA has released the 2024-25 #PTCAS prompt that will go into effect when the application opens June 17 during today's webinar. As expected, it is almost the same as last year’s: "Every applicant is unique in their own way, possessing individual qualities, abilities, and backgrounds. What unique...

    Interview advice/unexpected questions

Definitely know how to answer the basic questions about you, the school, and PT. Random questions I was asked included, "Tell me about a time when you were angry," and "What would you do if you were working with a patient who didn't speak English?" Remember there's usually no right answer --...

    Question about being waitlisted

I've worked with several students who have done this and then gotten in. The worst case situation is that it doesn't help you. A school isn't going to not admit you because you've sent them a polite email letting them know you want to go to the school.

    First Time Observing PT

Check with the PT beforehand on what their rules are. A big one is whether or not you can ask questions in front of patients or if they'd rather you wait until the patient isn't around. Try to remember to keep questions based on the PT profession (what do you like/dislike about the job? etc)...

    Classifying Observation Hours

Inpatient is when patients spend the night; outpatient is when they don't. Beyond that, check with the PT as to what setting you're in or what setting the patient falls under.

    Preparing for interviews

Congrats on the interviews! Ask how clinicals are set up (can you choose your own? etc) and ask how each class gets along and what students do when they're not in class.

Advice for a DPT applicant (summer '24 application cycle)

Every school does things differently. I've worked with students who haven't met the GPA/GRE requirements, but got in anyway because their essays and other parts of the application were strong. You don't have to take any classes that aren't required. I never took exercise physiology or...

    Applications

After you finish and submit your PTCAS application while applying to physical therapy schools, most of it is locked in, including your personal statements. However, there are a few things you can edit or add after the fact on your way to becoming a physical therapist. Here’s a list of things you...

    Help !!

If the schools don't have rolling admissions, it shouldn't matter when you apply as long as you meet all your deadlines. Good luck!

    PTCAS References

Yes, they'll need to upload their letter for each school. It is up to them if they want to use the same letter for each school or write separate ones for each school. If they want to use the same letter for each school, they'll have the option to do so AFTER completing the first reference request.

    Colleges Attended Section on PTCAS

Yes, you do. You have to list every place you've taken classes, and that one is especially important since you took a pre-req there.
