    Spay/Neuter Suture Size/Type

Hey guys I just graduated and will be starting my new job next week. I was told by my boss that I will be starting out primarily in surgery doing spays/neuters. I have done spay/neuter externships in the past but the last time I have performed one was back in December. At my previous shelter...

    Books For New Graduates

Thank you for the replies! I found a series of books by saunders called solutions in veterinary practice and they have separate books for dentistry, derm, GI, ophto etc and was wondering if anyone has experience with these. Thanks!

    Books For New Graduates

I was wondering what books you guys recommend for general small animal practice for the new practitioner. I was mainly concerned about topics such as GI, dentistry, dermatology, and ophthalmology. I was wondering if there were books covering the most common conditions and decent review of common...

    Acceptance Rates

Yea I can relate. I applied to ten schools, got into 6, declined interviews at 3, and was waitlisted at my IS, of course. I also agree that you should choose the cheapest option, all the programs are similar and I really think the student determines how much they get out of their time in...

    Euthanasia/job

Thats a tough call because if the animal is not mine nor a friends pet, it does not bother me. I have yet to get emotional during or after a euthanasia. I hope this does not make me an awful person. Im not saying I am not sorry for the family but I guess I dont feel a connection to the animal...

    Euthanasia/job

Getting back on topic, I do believe that you will get used to euthanasia. My very first day ever with a veterinarian, I watched several horse euthanasias. It was not the most pleasant experience but I knew that was part of the field. Now I have assisted with many of them and it does not...

Fall schedule questions for an aspiring veterinarian

I graduated from USF a few years ago and took university experience. It is a nice course and is an easy course to bring up your gpa. Today in Chemistry I would not take as it cannot be used for science credit. Instead I would enroll in gen chem one, that way you can start your bio sequence in...

    Oregon state Vet med

Are you married? Oregon does not allow you to apply for in-state residency after your first year.

Warning, dorky thread - I want backpack suggestions.

Stupid question: do we regularly brings lots of textbooks each day to school or is it mostly for at home use? I like my backpack right now but it does not have near the level of extra padding/reinforcement for those large vetmed textbooks. I have heard that some schools have lockers.

Need info on these veterinary fields that i'm interested in.

The only other route I am aware of is that you go into private practice for a few years.

Moving across the country for vet school... tips?

I will be moving cross country as well and I will just be filling my car up. Renting a u-hual would cost more than the value of the furniture I have so I do not see the point in brining any of that with me.

How to balance vet school with significant other's military life?

Based on your wording it appears you and him are assuming he will be a seal. Your boyfriend will have to go to officer candidate school in rhode island and then get an assignment before finishing there. Getting an assignment straight out of OCS to BUDS is extremely difficult, I believe they...

Official Decisions for the Class of 2016

I am looking forward to the waitlisters getting spots too. Unfortunately I know I will not make it off my IS waitlist......

    UF c/o 2016

Hey guys. I called UF and they said only 1-2 people off the IS waitlist will get a spot in the class. So if you are not at the very top, it looks like you will not be getting a call.

    Are online classes frowned upon?

If the class is not a science class, I dont see any problem with it being online. I took 4-6 general education classes online and never had a problem with schools. I even took general chemistry I and II online and took the labs in class and never heard anything about it. I also think taking...
