    EM/IM/CC Purpose and Practice Models?

First post in a long time. Enjoy seeing that this is still being discussed on SDN. Back in the day I was trying to convince everyone that "boards were coming...". A lot has changed, but many things haven't. IR3A4 you as a good question. If you are straight IM, then you can do a CC...

    Residency Training in Anesthesiology

Well said inspirationmd, I'm a former EM/IM/CC grad and have been practicing both EM and CCM for > 10 years. I have been a CC Division Chief in an Anesthesiology Department, responsible for training Anesth Residents in CC while also developing a robust critical care experience for the EM...

    Critical Care Medicine

How do you define "heavy hitters"? Many of them are EM/IM trained or IM trained and grandfathered in EM (Jay Falk, Steve Conrad). Manny did EM/IM at Henry Ford, then UPMC cc fellowship. Steve Trzeciak EM/IM/CC - Rush/Cooper, Mike Donnino EM/IM/CCM Ford, Bryant Nguyen EM/IM Ford, CCM Loma...

Critical Care is now officially approved for EM grads

I don't think it will be long before surgery is in the "game" in some way. The writing is on the wall and there is getting to be too many voices of reason. As the old dinosaurs fade out, the new leaders will build bridges rather than walls. It is a big first step, but not the last. At...

Critical Care is now officially approved for EM grads

If you don't have the requirements going in, they can be done during the fellowship. Not ideal, but IM had some problems with resident supervision by a non-IM physician. Similar concerns would be down in the ED by non-EM trained physicians.

Just approved - CC pathway for EM grads

The American Board of Medical Specialties board of directors voted and approved (the final step) the conjoint training AND CERTIFICATION pathway for EM residents who complete an ABIM approved 2 yr CC fellowship. http://www.acepnews.com/news/practic...html?tx_ttnews[tt_news]=719 This is a...

    em fellowships

These are some legitimate points Jarabacoa. I have always gravitated towards the critically ill patients in the ED, but during a shift, I may only see one or two. There is a lot more to EM than critical care, as you know. I think any fellowship will help you and the group, if you truly...

    ID/CC Combo

The rules still apply. We had that at Pittsburgh. AGH only had a pulm program and they came over to UPMC for their CC year. To even thicken the plot more. Some Pulm/CCM programs are APPROVED for 1 or 2 spots each year of pure CC. However, they don't advertise this and RARELY fill them...

    ID/CC Combo

This is pretty much on track. They just have an extra slot for the next years class after you do your 1 year. It is not uncommon for fellowships to have to juggle these "moving" positions due to people leaving or coming in with the above mentioned expectations. You do need to find a pure...

    CC Fellowship...

As per the recently struck deal between ABIM and ABEM, the new EM/CCM fellow will be allowed into IM/CC fellowships approved by ACGME. Only those EM/CCM grads who successfully complete 2 yrs of the said IM/CCM fellowship will be eligible for certification (IM/CC). The majority of current EM...

    CC Fellowship...

Many intensivist programs are going to shift work also, so one potential schedule could be 7 days on CC, week off, 8 days ER, week off etc... You wouldn't do both in the same day. KG
