    Internal debacle

I know of one person who was in the class behind me in optometry school who ended up in medical school and became a vitreoretinal surgeon.

Questions for those in private practice

For those of you ophthalmologists who are private practice owners or even those working for PE practices, if your practice has an optical gallery and/or dispenses contact lenses, what EHR system are you using?

Please Help! Can I sign a job contract and back out before the starting date?

Your contract probably has a 30, 45 or 90 day notice to quit so just tell them now you don't want the gig.

If you couldn’t do OD anymore, what would you be?

If you want to be in the field, you may wish to consider becoming a licensed optician. In states where licensure is required, they can make significant money.

    Optometry-H1B

Historically, optometrists have not been eligible for H1B visas. At least, they weren't when I was dealing with this crap 20 years ago. Perhaps that has changed. I don't get why OPT is ending before residency ends. The residency IS the OPT.

How many years after graduation to own a private practice

Maybe but it's going to be real hard and you'll probably pay a criminally high interest rate. As far as expedition goes, it depends on whether you are looking to start cold or buy someone out.

    Optometry Contracts

A non-compete agreement has some value. The person agreeing to it should be compensated for it in some way. It's not meant to simply a pre-condition of employment.

Can Canadian US trained ophthalmologists practice in Canada?

I grew up in Niagara Falls, Canada but have lived and practice in the USA for many years. I'm no fan of Justin Trudeau. But.... Last January, my mom passed away. My sister and I made the decision to sell our childhood home. I grew up in a neighborhood that was....to say blue...

Retina: Solo Practice vs Group Practice

I'm puzzled. If several mac on RDs and assorted other emergencies a day are coming into clinic, why are you scheduling 50+ patients a day? Shouldn't there by some flexibility in the schedule to accommodate that? Maybe go with 40+ patients a day in clinic.

How many patients a day do you as an optometrist? Do you feel you have enough time with each one or do you feel rushed?

I see about 25 patients a day. With proper tech support, (and experience) it is not difficult. I can understand how/why a new graduate may not be able to achieve that kind of volume comfortably. I always get my full lunch, frequently more than an hour and I never leave late.

    Is the "partnership track" dead?

Good will seems to be, at least in my humble opinion a bit of a dying concept in medical practices given that it's almost exclusively 3rd party payors. It still exists for sure but your reputation will not matter all that much if the patients' insurance plan changes. We've all had that...

    Is the "partnership track" dead?

I'll give you the optometry perspective on this.... I live/practice in Connecticut, half way between Hartford and New Haven. Attracting doctors to this area (all specialties) is very very hard. Even though we are an hour from New York City, an hour and half from Boston, have access to great...

    Need Advice

It's weird that something like this would not affect your grade in the class. That makes it sound like it's a pretty low level offense. Get it expunged if you can and move on with your life.

    Is the "partnership track" dead?

Something seems puzzling here.... An associate producing $19k a month seems incredibly low. My associates produce about $70,000 a month and we are optometrists for God's sake. They didn't produce that at the start but they were producing about $40,000 per month on a reduced patient flow...
