    CME Live Conferences

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely look into the conferences by Symposia Medicus.

    CME Live Conferences

Hi Everyone, I have attended the Scientific Assembly in the past (which is great), but was wondering if any of you folks would know of other high quality conferences. I joined as new faculty at a program, and the more senior faculty are attending this year, and too many of us can't be out at...

    Location vs Program

I agree with the poster who said to go where you would be most happy, but not necessarily to choose program over location. For some people, being able to see their family is a way to recharge, and not having that for the 36 hardest months of your life (thus far) would be a challenge. I chose my...

Frustrated and struggling with speculum exams - advice?

Often when I see residents unable to find the cervix, it's because they are not looking posterior enough. When inserting the spec, make sure you're angling the front part of the spec posteriorly (angle towards the floor), then bring it more anteriorly (upwards) as you look for the cervix. Look...

Just put in resignation, seeking advice

My husband is a grad student, and the health insurance his school offers is not stellar, but definitely adequate. I'd definitely have him look into it.

    Rural Medicine Elective

I'm currently an R2 at a community hospital in the mid-atlantic. I've started to become interested in rural medicine as a career choice, but wanted to get some better experience/exposure. I'd like to do an away elective where I can see the benefits/downfalls of rural medicine and get more...

    Preventive Medicine Lifestyle

I chose to go into FM (starting intern year in a couple weeks) because of my interest in preventive medicine. You can really get involved at all ages -- well-baby checks to pap smears to pre-natal care (which could be considered "preventive") to managing risk factors in the older adult...

when is good time to change last name

I got married during my MSIV year, and changed my name in the spring semester after match. I then notified my residency program right away of my new name after Match day. I haven't yet changed my USMLE name records (Step 1, 2ck, and 2cs are all under my maiden name), but so far I haven't been...

    FM residencies in New Jersey

I heard these sentiments often on the interview trail as well, but I'm not fully convinced. In a couple months, I'll graduate from a school that is in a very urban setting with the majority of the patients being underserved, underinsured. I think that in this situation, FM plays a very important...

    Family Medicine Match Statistics!

I just matched into FM (woo!) and in comparing my class' match list to last year's list, there was definitely an increase in interest. Last year and the year before saw 8-9 people matching into FM. This year, we had 18 people! For reference, I'm at a mid-tier allopathic university on the East coast.

    Doctors in Training Step II

I'm going to completely agree with this post. Especially the last bit regarding the bottom line. I bought DiT for Step 2 CK prep to get through the material. It's a tad bit pricey, imo, since he basically just reads Step Up to Step 2 to you, but some of the quizzes/tables were helpful for...

USMLE World Scores and Step II Scores

Okay, so apparently, I was worrying and causing wrinkles for no reason a all. Got my score report today: Step 2 CK: 260! Mean of 230 with a SD of 23. I'm so, so happy with my score. And for those of you waiting for your scores, who've taken the test and feel crappy about how it went-- don't...

USMLE World Scores and Step II Scores

Took the exam yesterday 11/22/10. I thought it was way harder than I was expecting, and feeling sort of down about it actually. :( I put in a decent effort in my preparations, but felt like I wouldn't have felt better even if I had studied another 3 weeks. Step 1: 245 Step 2 CS: Pass Shelf...

    Ladies Interview Shoes

After reading through this thread, I invested in a pair of Cole Haan Nike Air pumps (about 2 inch height). I had my first interview yesterday, where I wore these, but owwww. My feet were killing me after the hospital tour. Today, I had my 2nd interview-- after the blisters I got yesterday, I...
