Is John Pinto's private practice lecture series still accurate?

In fairness, multispecialty group sees a good mix, but population is white and old.... so lot of legit wet AMD. Real Estate, 7 room Eye-only (multispecialty group only) ASC, Bustling Research Arm, and good leadership are all present. Little Retina competition in the state.

Is John Pinto's private practice lecture series still accurate?

Been a while since I posted I know 2 groups where partners make >2 million. One is multispecialty, everyone in the population has AMD, everyone is getting injected, retina in that group gets all the injection/drug money. No sharing. The other group is retina only. Their overhead is 25%...

    Top 10 Surgical Retina Fellowships

Late comment here, but one of my best friends went to Wolfe. Its a sleeper when it comes to PP VR fellowships. Lot of truth in some of the comments. If you are looking for an "alternate" pathway... hard to beat PP fellowships with Bascom res/vr grads.

    Healthcare system and PE jobs

You should look around. There are definitely some posts out there already that address this issue (sort of). If you are going to work for Kaiser or a large healthcare system and you aren't the first Retina Doc to be employed you probably don't have a whole lot of latitude. But to answer your...

Really need help with Research Year

You are in a sticky situation. By this point, you probably know if you have a nose for these things or not. If you can extricate yourself from this mess without it hurting your application you should. If you can't, you need to do what newby00 says. You sacrifice the year. Sometimes the...

Changing career to Ophtho (from internal medicine)

One of my Mentors - young guy only a few years ahead of me did IM residency --> ophtho residency ---> surg retina fellowship He was able to jump into pgy2 ophtho because he had an IM residency under his belt. IF you have a compelling reason, persuasive story, and competitive scores, it is...

Is ophthalmology a fairly safe field to enter?

@VA Hopeful Dr & Percyeye, good to see your comment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Optoms routinely break 200k. I know the listed average is 130s, but my impression is that Optoms routinely break 150 in private practice in the Midwest. And, I think it is fairly competitive...

Is ophthalmology a fairly safe field to enter?

pats98/ student189045 Predicting 2028 is basically impossible. Also, you aren't really interested in 2028. You are really interested in 2032, the reimbursement rates 3-5 years into your practice. Dr. Zeke has offered some sage counsel. Money is important. How important it is and how...

Is ophthalmology a fairly safe field to enter?

VA hopeful. At some point I am sure that some enterprising, intrepid, and slightly crazy OD will garner enough support to advance legislation for injection privileges. There are PAs already doing injections. There are NPs who have also injected eyeballs. I myself would never come in at...

Research year = more interviews, better letter Avg step1, okay undergrad, *hitty Med school, no pubs, and no Research year = Russian roulette with the match No Brainer. What an I missing here ? Do the research year. It will add to your resume, you’ll have an ally and more impressive app...

Success stories/failed attempts on switching to ophthalmology?

Very doable. One of my junior mentors did IM residency then matched straight into ophtho. I think a mature but teachable attending who isn’t too old is an excellent stabilizing force in a residency program. I think your app would be received well. If you don’t mind me asking, I hear...

    Pediatrics + Comprehensive Ophthalmology

Titus345, while the small-town feel of going home has its appeal, you really don't get a true reimbursement range of your sub-specialty until you start interviewing. The numbers being quoted above I presume are without ROP contracts. Once you add that on board (if you are willing to take that...

Disability Insurance, Ophtho & Wrist "Discomfort" - A Specific Question

Hi All, I'm finishing training and have started to develop what I think is a cubital tunnel syndromes or some sort of ulnar pathology with numbness (no weakness yet) in the characteristic distribution [basically feels like i'm always in some sort of half-shoulder shrug and my 4th5th fingers...
