Navy HPSP - Signing Accession Bonus Papers

Things may have changed but I went to UOP and didn’t sign the bonus paperwork. I ended up staying in longer than 3 years anyway but one never knows the future.

    Please help. Cosmetics

That being said there are tons of courses that will give you the information to do high end cosmetics but you still need hundreds of reps practicing it and you just won’t have the hand or eye skills for likely several years. Some to look into you’ll see commonly mentioned - BAARD institute -...

    Please help. Cosmetics

Reality is there are hardly any “cosmetic dentists” in the real world. If by that you mean you spend all day doing veneers on rich people. Several reasons Most people don’t have that kind of disposable money for vanity There are already a hundred dentists on your corner claiming to be a...

    New grad suspicious scheduling

I would totally use those crown inserts to gas the patients up and if any genuinely needed or wanted dental work is done ask if they’d like it done that same day since they are already there = production for you. After the appointment tell them that you would love to meet any family or friends...

USAF recruiter breathing down my neck

I applied Air Force and interviewed, guy who interviewed me said “I never do this but I’m going to highly recommend you to the board”. Wasn’t even an alternate. Navy took me anyway and it worked out 🤷‍♂️

    Navy Reserve Dentist

I was in the right place at the right time for civilian job. Unfortunately that’s kind of how it works as most hires are internal or prior military. No idea about residency and reserves but again I don’t see how it would be worth it. You would make a lot more money and have more flexibility...

    Navy Reserve Dentist

As a reservist Be sure you know what you’re getting yourself in to. The monthly drills come around pretty often. The two weeks a year could be a major pain the ass to be gone from your job. I guarantee you will have less than no idea what’s going on with no active service prior. I did six...

    Credentialing Tour

Like I said Great Lakes is somewhat unique due to patient population. I honestly would not choose the AEGD over the credentialing year here, but that's just me personally. I know the people who completed AEGDs here were happy with their experience too. They did get more experience in prosth...

    Credentialing Tour

Finishing my credentialing year at Great Lakes. Can answer anything specific. Has been a great experience. Plenty of rotations: 6 weeks in endo, 4 in OS, 2 of CEREC, 4 weeks of oral diagnosis and 4 of treatment planning. This is a recruit training base so probably unique compared to other bases...

    Army Active Duty OMFS

Don't have the answers as I am Navy. But genuinely curious what are your reasons for joining especially if you don't know these seemingly important details already?

    Advice for Pre-Dent

What was your application weakness last time? Those seem like good things to mention. I'd ask what traits successful applicants typically have at their school and make sure you have those as well. Can't say I have much experience with this but if I was meeting with a re-applicant I'd just want...

    Happiness in Dentistry

I went the Navy route to pay for school. Couldn't be more happy with that decision. I agree that the student debt is nothing to take lightly, if you aren't doing public service or military I would go to the absolute cheapest school possible, then go live in the boonies somewhere and pay it off...

    Happiness in Dentistry

It's as hard as you want it to be. All the hand skills stuff is plenty hard when you are first learning it, but it does become pretty easy eventually through repetition. But there is always something to get better at so don't worry, if you want the challenge it will be there.

    Commissioning

Everyone at my school has commissioned once the school year started on August 1st and most were not locals.
