Seeking advice from possible Forensic Pathologists or Pathologist's assistant

Pathology Assistants generally aren't being employed in forensic pathology work, although I personally think there is merit to the idea. I agree that a good autopsy tech is a great asset.

    FP anyone?

Nope. Regret, no, but if you have the time and interest it's a great combo, neuro more than peds in my opinion.

Carib student with low step 1 score pathology residency

Not to beat the dead horse, but I also wonder if this person can succeed in pathology. Your best chance is to do an away rotation at a mid to lower tier program and impress them so that you bypass the normal application processes that would likely get your application discarded based on your...

    job application confidentiality?

Yep, I don't disagree with anything you've written. Not listing your current employer would be a red flag. I certainly would want to know why someone did that. I think the only way to go about this is to apply openly.

    FP anyone?

I'll agree with some, but not all, of those points. You're right that a few trainees a year don't ultimately do FP. I think some end up doing general surg path and those people were potentially just 'killing' a year (yes, pun intended), but I also know people who've done FP fellowships and...

    poster institution affiliation?

I would think you'd list the institution you are affiliated with at the time of submission, rather than the time of doing the work. But I'm sorta guessing on this.

    Qs - Surgical Pathologist

Ok, I figured you weren't from North America. Sounds like you're a researcher, which is fine, but if you want to do a pathology residency, you need to like clinical/diagnostic pathology. That's what surgical pathology is. Surgeons or other doctors cut or snip something out of a patient, you...

    Qs - Surgical Pathologist

Uh, if you don't know much about surgical pathology then you are going to have major problems interviewing for a pathology residency. Surgical path is bread and butter for most pathologists. If you cannot articulate well why you are interested in pathology, you not only will do poorly in the...

Advice for a potential Forensic Pathologist

While there are nuggets of semi-truth in here, there is plenty that is false. I know way more than I can or will post here, but even by simply looking up info that is in the media, one would see some of the mistakes. For starters, both Drs. Matsches and Sauvageau worked in Alberta, not...

Why so many books about the topics and by the same authors?

I think it's a fair question, and I don't have a great answer. In forensic path at least, I would argue there are only a handful of people with the knowledge, writing/editing skills, and most of all, time and inclination, to write, particularly in the younger generation of practitioners. Most...

Advice for a potential Forensic Pathologist

I do not agree with most of this. There are plenty of normal, content, well-adjusted forensic pathologists all over the US and Canada. Who are not in any type of trouble. Of all varying ages, many of whom stay in 1 position their entire career. I know just such a man - his office is right...

How long to get to 300k

It's all about supply and demand and what the market will command. In most Canadian provinces, beginning salary for pathologists is low to mid 300s (CAD of course). Many positions take years to fill with a qualified candidate.

    FP anyone?

Glad you guys have fond Baltimore memories. I hated the place. To be clear, I mean living in Baltimore, not the fellowship. The program is fine - solid training for sure. But if there's a more horrific place to live than Baltimore, I can't think of it. There's a reason that when I was...
