    DO and Ophthalmology

Hi. I am a DO and an ophthalmologist. If you are in California, you can meet many of my colleagues who will be meeting for our 96th Annual Clinical Assembly in Indian Wells, CA from May 9-13. Or check out aocoohns.org for some information.

    Jobs / cold calling?

How about opening your own practice? If you plan to settle in an area where there are a lot of children and not many peds ophthos, there might be a lot of business for you. I happily send most kids on to the peds ophtho because I don't do strabismus sx (by choice). Just a thought.

I also wanted to comment on bigapple34's assertion that women planning homebirths are unaware of risks or lack informed consent. IME most women planning homebirths are very well informed, well read, and have done extensive research on both home and hospital births before making a decision. Most...

    Documentary

Um, did we watch the same movie? Ms. Epstein WAS followed by an OB/GYN, a Dr. Moritz. It was at her 20 week ultrasound that she mentioned having a homebirth to him. It is not clear if she continued parallel care with him or if she switched her prenatal care completely over to the midwife. In...

    Documentary

 Very funny Spittz. However I don't equate a low risk pregnancy and natural childbirth with a surgical procedure for a pathological condition done in a sterile operating environment. So no, no home cataract extraction, and no muffins in the operating suite. When I had my appy it was 100%...

    Documentary

I'm not an OB but I am a physician and I recently saw the film on netflix. I expected it to be pretty scathing because I first heard about it from one of the midwives I interviewed who was very strongly anti-physician (didn't hire her anyhow). I thought it was reasonably balanced and that the...

    Holistic OB/gyn Residencies

Just wanted to add that there is also a very informative website addressing some of the issues raised in her book as well. http://pushedbirth.com I found Block's information coupled with my last birth experience and experiences during my training was so helpful in aiding my decision-making...

Do you think Mitomycin C is safe

Do you think it is safe for a pregnant female to operate with MMC as is done with pterygium and glaucoma procedures? Has anyone heard anything or know of anyone who might know?

Do you guys think omd's should be doing lipo?

Depends on where the lipo is being done. I did my oculoplastics rotations with a well-respected, asoprs fellow-training, oculoplastic group where the guys do lipo under the chin to complement other facial rejuvenation such as thermage, injectable fillers, and laser resurfacing. It seems totally...

Dear Ndestrukt, Thanks for your really useful, insightful, and relevant comment on this timely thread. You haven't posted in the Ophtho forum since March and then you search through a month old thread and try to pick a fight? Wow. This community is so fortunate to have such an interesting...

    Dropping/transferring ophtho residency

Please do a google search for divorce statistics (so you can find the ones you like best) so you can understand I am not way off base. If you want anecdotes head over to General Residency Issues. There is a poor guy there whose wife is leaving him in his prelim year and other SDNers share their...

    Dropping/transferring ophtho residency

Futureidoc. I am going to complain about YOUR highly inappropriate commentary. I didn't call anyone names yet you called me a "biatch" and "worthless". Your personal attack is not called for or appropriate. BTW it is prima donna (operatic role) not "premadonna". Or did you in fact mean docs...

    Dropping/transferring ophtho residency

This is what the OP said. She is making it sound like her fiancee is practically J. Howard Marshall or something. My parenthetical comments were in direct response to the OP's implications that mid 40's is so so old. That and someother poster's Mr. Katie Couric's 40 something death. In case...
