Yeah I’m sure the Macomb class in general is closer to eachother than EL, but being in EL it was very easy for me to find my group since there were so many. I liked to go out and be social, and a lot of those people who did the same are the friends that I still have now. So I wouldn’t say you...

2021-2022 Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM)

Current 3rd year here. I can only comment on my experience with my class as each class may be different. I chose the EL campus because I wanted to have a larger class size. Roughly 200 at EL versus 50 at Macomb. I made great friends at the EL campus and our class was very close until around 2nd...

3rd Year DO Student Ortho Chances + LOR Question

I'll keep this short but just want to know my chances for a formerly osteopathic program. I go to a school that typically matches well in ortho. Step 1: low 250s Level 1: 660s Step 2 and Level 2: assume I stay in same range Research: 2 ortho pubs, 6-7 presentations at local/regional conferences...

    UNECOM vs MSUCOM

Agreee with the above poster. We have internal rankings which are eventually released on your MSPE. East Lansing is a college town, plain and simple. Lots of things to do around the area. You have the option to try and get placed at the Detroit or Macomb campus as well. Macomb is where most of...

Official 2022 Step 2 CK Experiences With Scores Thread

Its so weird how that happens. I looked back at my heat map and the couple weeks before step 1 I was doing like 1400 cards. Once I hit 4-500 now I'm done and cant do anymore lol. I think what we may miss by not doing so many cards, we'll make up for by being hands on and actually learning in the...

Official 2022 Step 2 CK Experiences With Scores Thread

Posting this for accountability. Ever since Step/Level 1 I've been less motivated but just signed up for both today. Testing in July and have 3-4 weeks of dedicated. Had to take some time off since I have Surgery and EM right before which I know will be demanding. Step 1: low 250s Level 1: 660s...

    D.O. Student Orthopedic Surgery Matched-AMA

Thats fair. I guess I've always read that if you wanted to match at an MD residency for ortho, you needed to be top of the top in terms of boards and research since it seems like MD programs care about research more than the community DO programs. I would be too afraid to waste one of my 5...

    D.O. Student Orthopedic Surgery Matched-AMA

Are there any general numbers in terms of Step + research output where aiming for formerly MD programs would be recommended? (Those who have taken at least 1 DO before) Not really asking for myself but just curious.

    general away rotation questions

Following since I’m wondering the same. I’ve heard former AOA aways aren’t super competitive but still worried about it.

We are pass fail with an internal ranking system where your quintiles (1-5) will be mentioned on MSPE. So take that as you will. Test questions come from professors. Really varies on the professor on whether the questions are board relevant or not.

My campus was EL so I know more about that campus, but a lot of nontrad students tend to stick to Macomb or Detroit. Mostly Macomb I'd say, however we have a decent amount at the EL campus as well. In general, I think Macomb tends to be more attractive for non-trads that don'tt want to be around...
