Just got back feedback that was basically, "you're annoying."

Learning and understanding social cues can be done and just as important as learning textbook medical knowledge. You can be pretty damn smart but if you're annoying it can just kill the culture in any work place. I know of a very coveted fellowship where they get top prospects but they say 80%...

    Changing practices/relocation

I know a lot of this depends on how the partnership agreement is laid out but if a partner does want to leave and no new Doc is coming in to buy them out how do the original partners come up with the cash to buy them out if that number is significant? Do they keep cash on hand or take a loan?

Going to optometry for routine checks?

Interesting hearing that perspective from a pediatric ophthalmologist, especially with kids. Our state mandates an eye exam on all kids before entering certain grades and it happens all the time where you ask a parent or the kid how are you seeing? They both say good, no problems. And then you...

    Should I continue with Optometry?

All medical training whether it is Optometry, Dental, Medical School, PA etc etc is extremely expensive right now and only getting worse. So I wouldn't base the rest of my life on tuition cost and would do what you are interested in. PA has a cap of about $100-$140K they can make and employed...

    Demand of various subspecialties

Because many people will revolt if they might have to pay a $40 copay let alone full cash for an exam.

    Internal debacle

Things to consider... Time, if you truly want to do a surgical field it may take another 10 years or so all in. If you have student loans that interest rate will be compounding during that time. Being a surgeon is not guaranteed. Especially if you are thinking Ophthalmology. The top...

    Internal debacle

It is difficult but it is possible. What would make you want to switch?

    Demand of various subspecialties

Retina always seems busy but in our area they do a lot of traveling and driving to different sites. Is this common in most areas? And I assume they do this so that they maximize their schedule. Do any other out here do a lot of driving and have you found it to be worth it to stay busy as possible?

    Clinical Skills Advice

The key is reps and use elbow rest and if you can rest your hands on the patient's face if you have to. Whenever I remove a foreign body or punctal plugs etc that is tedious I will sometimes even use the patient's nose for a brace. They don't seem to mind if you warn them before hand.

    Private equity starting salary

Separate PE question. There are about 30-40 PE backed firms that are buying Ophthalmology/Optometry practices out there. The ultimate goal for these companies and vested Docs is to get that "2nd bite of the apple." But how many firms out there actually have the capability, especially in this...

How can I decide early between multiple competitive specialties? (ortho, ENT, ophtho)

It seems weird to say Lifestyle and Family are your number 1 priority... but then you are only interested in surgery fields. And then the most favorable Lifestyle and Family field (Ophtho) you say isn't interesting enough for you. If Lifestyle was actually the most important thing you'd be...

Iowa doctor sues pharmacy board to mandate dispensing of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin

Non-pharmacist here. If the patient dies or is hospitalized when the pharmacy refuses to fill medication could the Pharmacist be sued? I don't agree with the Ivermectin treatment etc but in the end why does the Pharmacist care? Or are they liable for "off-label" treatment?

Applying Ophthalmology- do I have a red flag

I know Ophtho is a very competitive specialty but how difficult is it to get into a "lower tier" program?

Best specialty for the burnt out, jaded 3rd year who has little passion left for medicine

Ophtho. Get to do procedures/ surgery. Patients are *typically very happy with outcomes. Good schedule.
