Navy Guam as Civilian Physician Spouse

Start working on getting a Guam medical license now. The board is very slow and it’s a tedious process.

I think you need to talk directly to someone in the group. It’s an evolving situation.

    What is USUHS actually like?

I graduated from USUHS several years ago. I was prior service, but not a line guy. The field experience definitely helped as a GMO with a Marine artillery battalion. Currently, as staff, I guess it’s a wash, other than running into my classmates around the world which is always a joy. The...

    Navy Scholarships, Military Pharmacy

Well, just happened to surf SDN today. I haven't been here for a while. Yes, I participated in HSCP. I've really been out of the Navy pharmacy arena for a long time now, currently a GMO with the Marines. Other than being "owned" by the military, I don't think there is a downside to taking...

    Conscience Clauses and Mil Med

You cannot compel professionals to participate in care they feel is morally wrong. We may have to agree to disagree here. It's arrogant and paternalistic to assume that your morals override theirs. As I said though, if a pharmacist won't dispense a medication, they need to provide a mechanism...

    Conscience Clauses and Mil Med

Look, you can say whatever you want about the utility or lack thereof of the pharmacy profession. I don't care. That is your opinion. What irritated me about this discussion was the statement that an entire profession had no right to morally refuse to do something they didn't agree with.

    Conscience Clauses and Mil Med

Sure, this fairly common in both the civilian world and in the military. It frees up the pharmacists to do things other than count pills. What is your point?

    Conscience Clauses and Mil Med

No. You are absolutely wrong. A pharmacist has just as much right to their moral convictions as a physician. That being said, just like a physician, if they can't provide a medication to a patient then they need to direct the patient to someone who can. Believe or not, they do not simply...

    Life at USUHS.

Not really USUHS per se, but there is a program to get a certain amount of metro cards/month- you'll get emails about it when you get here. It's somewhat of a hassle, but free transportation is nothing to sneer at.

Do you need a car to go to USUHS?

Quite true. You'll have things you need to do around town in even in your first and second years that require a vehicle. And, even if you do get all your rotations in town, the metro doesn't start until 5am- you'll need to be on the floors at that time for some of your surgery rotations.

    Antibiotics

Microbiology made ridiculously simple has a good section. Unfortunately, until you see the drugs in use on daily basis learning them is a bit like trying to memorize a phonebook. Just keep hammering on it.

    NMHM at Walter Reed...

Yeah, it's cool. I haven't been there for a few years. I don't what they plan on doing with the museum when WRAMC moves to the NNMC campus. It would be cool if USUHS could take it over, and set it up on the Bethesda campus, but I doubt if this a high priority.

    PharmD and MD Differences

I would agree with this. The volume of material is higher in med school. I would say that some of the individual courses in pharm school were harder, but there wasn't quite the sheer tonnage of stuff to plow through. This thread is less about people genuinely interested in the curriculum...

Official Surgery Shelf Exam Discussion Thread

I used Pestana, Casefiles and USMLE world questions. I got all the way through these resources. Also, I read a lot of Surgical recall, and the ABSITE review by Fiser. I mostly read the latter two books prior to lectures, rounds, OR, or other pimping times. I scored 92 raw, 99% percentile. I...

Surgery Shelf Exam Prep - 1st rotation

I used USMLE World, Case Files, and the Pestana notes. That seemed to work out ok. Also, I picked up an ABSITE review book and Surgical Recall- less useful for the shelf, but great for pimp questions. The ABSITE book fits nicely in the back pocket of your scrubs. I heard good things about...
