Can I improve my chances in matching PMR?

Finish psych and then go for pain fellowship if you can. Otherwise, spend some time with PM&R docs, then get to some LORs. Watch for PGY-2 spots to open and apply for them as soon as you see them. Many programs with a sudden open spot will take any living body. Your scores should place you...

    The gall of the CRNAs

I'm waiting right now for my Wisconsin license to be approved. It is going to be my back up. I'm 15 miles from the border now. I have property up in the Dells. The ripcord can be easily pulled here.

URGENT: Free brochures to educate patients on voting out Obamacare!

I'm too cynical to believe it will matter to anyone until it is too late.

First job? Location vs big money vs longterm prospects

You are concentrating too much on money. Money has a way of going away. Quickly. That $350K they promised could become $250K when they didn't tell you how they really calculated your salary. Oh, and you fell $50k short of making bonus. CMS changes a few rules, and suddenly your collections...

    The gall of the CRNAs

Illinois is controlled by trial lawyers. Several years ago, we got a cap put on economic damages and the lawyers got it overturned within a year. No attempts at tort reform since then. Add to that we are essentially bankrupt as a state. Medicaid here is hopelessly underfunded. We're the only...

color doppler necessary for joint shots?

I use the Doppler effect when injecting, to watch where the fluid goes. You can see it going into the shoulder joint, or not, better than without it. Same with hips. If you want to know how good you are at placement of the needle within the joint, you have to do radiology after. I assure...

    The gall of the CRNAs

I was in TX when I was sued. That particular county was well known for being a lawsuit haven for plaintiffs. Some states are better for malpractice than others. I moved to Illinois and Texas got better, Illinois worse at malpractice.

    The gall of the CRNAs

It varies by state, but often 2 years. Once they file, it can take years to finish. All the while making money for lawyers and stress for doctors. The plaintiffs have nothing to lose, everything to gain. We have nothing to gain.

Agree 100%. It sucks, but that's the game we play.

    The gall of the CRNAs

Settled for $95K. Minimal for a death case. Lawyer missed an important deadline. Widow probably got $30K out of it. It also had funny things like the widow suing for loss of consortium, but she was already remarried when I was served 6 months after he died. He was also in an MVA a few days...

    The gall of the CRNAs

I could train an MOA to do most of that at 1/10th the salary of an NP, an RN If necessary. If they are stable on meds, the PCP can write them. To have an NP mainly to write for opioids is going above their level of training. There is not a single NP out there with a fraction of the formal...

    Pain board results online!

At times it matters, like marketing and correspondence don't use abbreviations. Spell it out for the people who may not know which certification is legit and which isn't. Joe Smith, MD Diplomat, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Subspecialty Certification, Pain Medicine
