Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes...

They are opening new schools. Since I started med school in 2008 the number of DO schools in the US has probably doubled. FL also opened 3 new MD schools, including 1 at a place where they already have a DO school.

    dragon

We use mmodal at my practice. Can use commands and dot phrases to speed things up. Accuracy of dictation is the same as dragon. Have been told it is slightly cheaper, but I don’t know what we actually pay for it.

    General surgery vs podiatric surgery

My dad is a retired podiatrist. He had a great career and did well financially. He actually made 1.2 in his best year believe it or not, but he worked really hard. He convinced at least 4 or 5 of my friends to go into podiatry and most of them are happy with that choice. While you can make just...

    Board certified

I agree that those ABMS boarded in pain are in the best situation to defend themselves in terms of training. I understand that and residents who read this thread should too. My point is that if you did a year long fellowship that you can defend your training as adequate to do most spine...

    Board certified

Any decent attorney would ask if you could say that your former fellows were competent to practice pain and if you said yes, would then point out that you said it is possible for someone to do an non accredited fellowship and be competent to practice. Sure there would be a lot of back and forth...

    Board certified

I agree 100% on the no fellowship training aspect as people that just do a weekend course or 2 are much more likely to have bad outcomes and I have seen several examples of this. My point was on the not being boarded in pain part. You can vouch for your fellows, but what if someone else trained...

    Board certified

Considering you used to run a non accredited fellowship, I am not really sure how you can stand up in court and say that not being pain boarded is a problem. Any opposing attorney who knew that would hammer that fact down big time. Now if not boarded in your primary specialty, I can see where...

    Lightest/most comfortable radiation goggles

I also use the Nike brazens and have been happy with them. I have had mine for 7 years now and they are still in good shape. I usually wear them about 4hrs at a time without issues.

    Pictures of the Week

I had something similar happen. Sent to me for knee pain needing a TKA but surgery was being delayed due tracheal stenosis after heent radiation due to cancer. No neck or back pain and neurological exam was benign. Was getting dilations done by ent so he could eventually get intubated for...

    Real or BS

I had a patient that came to us in fellowship taking about 2000mg of oxy a day. We made her sit in clinic all day and take meds under observation to prove that she wouldn’t OD. Then had to come weekly to see us and psych to slowly wean down.

    cervical selective nerve root block

They have. I am currently in a pain only group, but just signed with a neurosurgical group. Best contract I have ever been offered and they were very receptive to why I will or won’t do certain things.

    Patient moving to Charlotte

I am in Gastonia which is a suburb west of Charlotte. I have friends that are good in other areas if that is too far. Do you know what area of Charlotte they are moving to?

    RIP Frank Falco, MD

He trained me in fellowship and was a great guy and teacher. His dedication to his patients and the field of pain was second to none. He will be missed for sure.
