PM&R books - which ones should I buy?

The best book I've bought recently is Waldman Comprehensive Atlas of Ultrasound Guided Pain Management Injection Techniques. It assumes a moderate knowledge of MSK US and basic injection techniques. It is pricy but worth it IMO.

    MOC ABPMR

I've already done so for the same reasons. I spent thousands on projects that were initially approved and then the requirement changed. And I discovered this after I took and passed the exam. Luckily, I can't be denied staff privileges for not being BC anymore in my state. All of my local...

    Bilateral EMG Billing

I would HIGHLY recommend that you (and one of the billers if possible) go to the AAMPM coding and billing workshop pre course at the academy meeting. I did this when I opened my solo practice and it made all of the difference in terms of reimbursement. Another option would be to buy the AANEM...

That would be an awesome gig if the price is right

    occ med gig

Seeing acute MSK cases is easy. Look for "bad" stuff (fractures, massive instability, neurological compromise from HNP, etc) and then rest, and see back quickly (sometimes in 3 days). Everyone goes back to work (with appropriate restrictions. Sedentary duty only if needed) unless there is a...

    occ med gig

do you like occupational medicine? Do you do well with work comp insurance? Are you willin to do fitness for duties, and DOT exams? Are you willing to analyze hearing shifts to determine work relatedness (they rarely are), and read PFTs to determine respirator fit tests? If the answer to...

    Job security future of PMR?

I love crossfitters. They just love to get MSK injuries. Very motivated to improve, but they get injured enough to keep the patients coming. :p

    Question about MSK/Spine practice

A majority of the "non-interventional" spine/MSK practices are ones that grew organically. You start out taking all comers (like non-interventional pain) and then slowly but surely weed out the things you don't want to see. I (after 20 yrs) have that kind of practice. MSK medicine,diagnostic...

Previous pre-DPT now Pre-med with a career focused on PM&R.. Advise

OP: I agree with all of the previous replies. If I start with the premise that you will be successful in your med school applications, may I suggest to you that you look into alternative funding methods. Join the Indian Health Service or the military. Both of these Govt systems will pay...

Several questions now I will be PGY4 soon(TBI, Jobs etc etc)

there is no reason that a Pedi PM&R doc cannot diagnose neuromuscular disease. Half the MDA clinics in the country are staffed by PM&R. And I do EMGs on 8y/o and up for peripheral nerve injuries (almost always Radial N. at the spiral groove from humerus fractures). The kids have been...

Several questions now I will be PGY4 soon(TBI, Jobs etc etc)

some of the most successful physicians are ones who fill a niche that nobody noticed was there. IMO, Peds/Sports could easily work, especially if you do peds-EMGs as well. The waiting time in my closest city for an EMG on a child is 6 months. Add to that all of the pedi sports injuries that...

    Working without DEA registration?

you need a DEA to prescribe controlled substances in any situation. The hospital will have your info on file.

    Working without DEA registration?

I'm sure that some will, some wont. But I don't know how anyone can be a good doctor and NEVER prescribe any controlled substances. I prescribe significantly less than most physicians, and still occasionally have a need to.
