    Invest during Coronavirus

dollar cost averaging works for someone that is looking for a simple approach and is financially stable enough to continue steadfast to that strategy. Now is when a lot of stocks are much cheaper which overall offsets when it was purchased at a higher amount. If your time line to retirement is...

    Resident/fellow side hustles besides moonlighting?

The caveat of doing the work from home more often than not I will decrease what you can pull in with a side hustle compared to shift work at an urgent care or other scenario like this. That being said if you have an excellent entrepreneurial spirit and background you may be able to figure...

term life insurance vs variable life insurance

The way I look at insurance is essentially this, if you’re independently wealthy and can cover pretty much every expense for yourself and your family even after death then theoretically you don’t need insurance. Unless you’re that category of people, insurance is a reasonable thing and necessary...

How do you feel about mutal funds, stocks, bonds?

I read both white coat investor books 1st which help me understand common problems physicians will face. This at least professed my brain in such a way that I could try not to fall into traps and dig a deeper hole than I already would be doing with student loans etc. etc. I then read investing...

Patient load ICU vs IM hospitalist

in theory should be less for sure but accounting for floor patients and pulm consults etc could be similar. At the busy hospital - I usually see between 10-15 ICU, 5 ish floor follow ups, and up to 5 new post ops/ICU upgrades/er admits. At the not so busy hospital - I usually see between 7-12...

    Fellowship LOR

You should have a couple from pulm/cc, pulm, cc because thats what you want to go into. Not all need to be pulm/cc. Having diversified LOR, In my opinion, look good.Having sat in as a fellow assisting with the process, I can tell you that if you can not get someone in your field to write a good...

How hard is it to get CC/Pul with H1b visa

your question doesn't point to any statistics to where you are on the spectrum. Someone with a ton of research and publications but terrible scores is not going to be comparable to someone who is well balanced. Are you will to apply broadly or do you have regional limitations. If your strong...

How many lines should you have done before starting fellowship?

I came from an unopposed program so fortunately I got to start knocking out a lot of lines as a pgy-1 (You did solo call 3 months into residency for a small 200 bed hospital).I would estimate that from pgy 1-3 including moonlighting I easily hit about 1k lines.By the time i got into fellowship I...

Should I apply DO given the match merger?

My honest opinion is go the route that you can get into. If you want to be a doctor them to come a doctor at all cost. Understand that student loans, financial burdens and other things will add stress along the way but if you’re calling is to become a physician then do so. I myself am a deal and...

How Much Does Medical School Actually Cost

That is not a surprising number. Depends if you have loans from undergrad as well which will pile on as well. Sent from my iPhone using SDN mobile

    Critical care moonlighting

I would imagine its difficult to do anything other than basic hospitalists weekend coverage and prn urgent care type of shifts as a fellow. Very difficult to find the time for one, secondly very difficult to find the time employers for prn coverage would want. Holidays, weekends are great pay.
