On many research projects but little productivity

I’m gonna be honest. Those PIs are **** but it’s somewhat your fault for picking them. There are a multitude of incompetent people in academia (probably 4 in 5 as a ballpark), and frankly, it’s somewhat on the trainee to do their own due diligence to find out who sucks and who doesn’t. You can’t...

Pediatrics BOARDS 2024 - DO- (AOBP)

Hell, most patients families don’t care where you went to school or what your training is… just as long as you give them what they perceive they are paying for/want.

    Institutional Affiliation?

It is possible. That’s how retired people publish. Hard to believe it would be taken seriously though.

    The Shortening of Post-Graduate Training

Sure, but the people who typically apply for it are assistant professors and are considered early-stage, irrespective of the amount of work one has to do to obtain it. Also, slightly unrelated, but they need to get rid of instructorship positions. Those are just rubbing salt in the wound.

    The Shortening of Post-Graduate Training

It’s all way too long. For most other careers, that’s well into a mid-career. Not “early”.

Pediatrics BOARDS 2024 - DO- (AOBP)

Hmm. Well, you have to pay the full membership indefinitely to the AAP. Maybe it was the subspecialty boards that require nomination. Either way… it’s a meaningless designation and says you’ve forked over bucks to pay to the organization. In fact, if it requires no nomination, it’s even more...

Good canned response to research position request?

No. Do exactly that... ignore them. Send them to the trash and don't respond. They are a dime a dozen. The only time they are useful is if someone you personally know and trust sends you their CV... AND you are desperate for help. Then... maybe... possibly. Otherwise... junk folder.

    Number of publications needed

Ha. Anyone with two brain cells sees through all this these days... Fortunately... most physicians don't have that many.

    The Shortening of Post-Graduate Training

https://insight.jci.org/articles/view/178214 I'm not sure I entirely agree with the conclusion, but I get where they are coming from. Being a MD-only K08, I definitely needed extra time post-graduate to bring myself up to speed. That being said, because I was MD-only, there was no fast track...
