DISCUSS: New dental schools for 2025 and after?

No wonder some corporate dental offices in highly saturated areas only offering $120k a year. Lol

Is specialization financially worth it in the long run?

If you have rich parents who pay for your dental school tuition then yes it’s worth it! But if you are a poor 1st generation college student with immigrant parents like me - not worth it.

USC FIRST YEAR Cost of Attendance $173k 2023-2024

Better off flipping burgers, every one in Cali got a 25% raise this week. Hahaha. Meanwhile, dentist pay is stagnant and in some places reduced.

    DAT SCORE

Everything else is solid except Bio and Ochem. If time permits you can try to retake - or just roll the dice and see what happens. Bad thing about retakes is you may end up with lower scores in other areas. Worst case, you get rejected, do a post bacc and get into dental school that way...

Just took my DAT. Do I need to retake?

Nah anything over 20 is good. Retake, you have a chance of getting a lower score - which will hurt you.

How to turn an okay DAT score, into a great score? Retake

Anything over 20 is good. As a practicing dentist DAT score is not a good indicator of how great of a dentist you will become. Most of the kids in my class with very high DAT scores were great at memorizing, but had very poor hand skills. Haha.

When should I ask about LOR?

Honestly the dental school have 3,000+ applicants to look at and only take around 50-100. Majority of the time they aren’t going to look at the letters of rec. When I got into dental school I only had one letter rec from a science professor. The office of admission said they wanted me to get...

    Reapplicant with some questions

As a dentist, it might be a blessing in disguise that you don’t get into dental school. Sometimes when I think back, I wished I didn’t go to dental school. $400k student loans, I’m paying around $3k a month for 15 years. If I factor in the student loans, I barely make more than my wife who is...

    Manual dexerity

People say it doesn’t matter, but when I graduated from dental school - 1/4 of my classmates preps looked jagged as heck. I wouldn’t want to be their first real patient. Lol

    Retake a C in Organic Chemistry 2?

Don’t waste your time retaking. I got a F in human anatomy because my college ex gf broke up with me. I was depressed for half the year and all my grades dipped. Still got into dental school and practicing dentistry for 5 years so far. Most dental schools will average the two grades. Say you...

Reapplying after receiving 5 interviews this past cycle

5 interviews and you didn’t get one acceptance? Just work on your acting skills and learn to shed tears on command. But on a more serious note, do the post bacc instead of working as a dental assistant. That’s how my niece got into dental school because she partied too much her freshmen year.

Is volunteering at a hospital worth it since I'm pre-dental?

No it’s a waste of time. They’d rather see that you volunteered at a dental clinic or observed there. Now if your going to med school, yeah keep at it.

Seeking Advice: Choosing Letters of Recommendation for Dental School Applications

As a dentist, it doesn’t matter. Majority of the weight is based off your DAT score, GPA, and interpersonal skills during the interview. Letters of recommendation is just another dance they want to see you do. Lol

    LOR UMN

Are you sure you want to go to UMN? Last I heard they stopped preparing students for CRDTS, so students who go there will hopefully practice in Minnesota. Lol

Can I take the DAT out of state?

Yes you can take it anywhere in the USA that has an opening. I took it in two different states because I didn’t like my first score. Lol
