Lake Erie - Seton Hill (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

Yes, we have year-long sites. We call them 13's, because theoretically you do all 13 of your rotations there. It doesn't usually play out like that, mostly because you get to choose where to do 4 of your 13 rotations, and many people like to go home or elsewhere for those. They're not always...

That one is specific to Erie. I believe https://www.facebook.com/groups/lecomsh2019 is for Seton Hill 2019.

Allotted board prep time @ your DO school

LECOM-SH finishes up PBL almost two months before rotations start (i.e. now), but then there's a 2-week psychiatry course, a series of shelf exams, and our ACLS training. Still plenty of time. Also, LECOM-SH gives us the option of using an elective rotation for the summer review course, if we...

Lake Erie - Seton Hill (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

So I think there's some discrepancy about this, but in my experience, when it's determined you're applying to the Seton Hill campus, all activity will come from the Seton Hill portal tab. That is to say, the Erie one will always say the "10 day" thing. I don't know why-- I've always assumed that...

Lake Erie - Seton Hill (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

The Big/Lil System at Seton Hill is optional, but I've found it invaluable. The upperclassmen/alumni of LECOM-SH are amazing people and, in my experience, the vast majority go out of their way to help out. Most of the books I use for PBL are e-books. If I have to flip back and forth through the...

There will also be copies of all of these books in the library. I didn't own anything OPP until second semester because the library copy sufficed.

It depends on why you'd want to be closer to Pittsburgh. Ideally, for you as a medical student, you'd want to be as close to the school as possible to maximize your time. What do you consider "doable"?

Lake Erie - Seton Hill (LECOM) Discussion Thread 2014 - 2015

I think it really depends on your situation. If you're living with parents/already have a place and can save on rent, then yeah, it's worth it. But living so far away can be socially isolating (I know that most of the people who live over in Pittsburgh mostly hang out with each other) and it can...

    LECOM ERIE vs Seton Hill

LECOM's sharing of facilities with SHU is actually one of its greatest advantages. We can use almost all of SHU's space, but they don't use any of ours. LECOM has access to SHU's now-enlarged library (SHU just completed expansion on it this past fall) as well as its own private library. I've...

As it stands now, LECOM will not have access to the new labs.

Correct-- PBL in Erie does not use the cadaver lab, only LDP. There is that option in the summer to prosect cadavers (and you get paid to do it), and those who I've talked to about it have found it helpful, but not life-changingly helpful. We PBLers actually get a pretty darn good anatomy...

Looking for a LECOM Seton Hill sensei

Did he specifically say that Seton Hill students matched into derm and optho? Sometimes LECOM combines their campus stats together when relaying information.

There are, but they are not easily identifiable/searchable. Housing posts will either be made in the main LECOM Seton Hill facebook group or in the Class of 2019 group. That housing document is also on the main Seton Hill facebook group under "files".
