Do Residency Directors care where you went to Med School?

Did you guys actually look at the Finch list. That is a He!! of a lot better than many state schools. Yeah those guys from Finch are big time loosers. Yeah right. Four people in Ortho, 6 in Opthalmology. Surgery at Yale. Diagonostic rads at USC (along with 5 other Rads). Ent at mayo. By the way...

What was your "theme song" while applying to med school? For interviews?

My theme song was Rick James "SuperFreak". Didn't really have anything to do with it being application season. My theme song is always "SuperFreak". However, when I got a little down and out I would think of "Simple Man" by Lynard Skynard, that three chord wonder always brings a tear to my eye...

    Anyone else look young?

YOu young lookers have it easy. I am 26 soon to be 27 and I look old as dirt. When I volunteer at a nursing home the nurses just say "are you new here, they are doing crafts in the cafeteria, do you want to take your medicine?" I mean I am falling apart. I guess I don't eat that well, could be...

Does med school rep mean more for path

I'm leafing through Isserson's residency book ever so often. He has this table that ranks what each specialty considers important criteria for a candidate. Pathology and psychiatry both rank med school rep higher than other specialties do. Path an psych rank it like #4 (of 14 criteria) whereas...

Help me choose between Jefferson and Tufts

I haven't interviewed at either of these schools or applied at either of them. However, I think Jefferson's academic rep is better than people are stating. May be just due to their large class size but I have seen tons of faculty members at various schools with Jefferson written on their MD. I...

    Anyone choosing prestige over money?

My options are a state school in the category of UArkansas, UKentucky, USouthAlabama, KansasU, MCG, or USouthFlorida with a full ride ($0 tuition) versus Cornell at about $25K a year tuition. I listed multiple state schools in an attempt to maintain some of my anonymity. What do you think about...

Why is there no dermatology forum?

Some guy posted on here about derm one time and other posters told him that he didn't have time to post on SDN if he was going into derm. They said that he should be studying for the boards and working on his CV (he was an MS1 and therefore "already behind"). So maybe Derms don't have time due...

    Best Lifestyles

I have heard that Neurosurgery has a really lousy lifestyle. Basically consisting of being banished from human civilization? Yet it wasn't listed on the bad lifestyles list. Doest it just go without saying that Neurosurgery sucks? Or do they actually have some prayer of living a normal life...

UMich and UTSW ,two schools,$100000 difference

If your interviewer from Vanderbilt hasn't heard of the Medical College of Georgia that just makes her/him look foolish (unless they are from another country). I have never heard any practicing physicians level any criticism at MCG, quite the opposite all have complemented them for excellent...

    How realistic is this?

dr. Oliver and Womansurg, I am big fans of your posts. Here is my insane question which is bound to result in hardy laughter and is totally off topic. Can or do general Surgery residents moonlight? If so what do they do? I know it seems odd but my primary care provider was actually a general...

    Are you LUCKY?

I am lucky! I got into medical school. I am 4 to 5 years older than average and they still let me in. They could have said "it is too late for the old coot," but they had mercy on me. I am also lucky in life. I was born in the richest nation in the world. The government gave me loans to go to...

    Please help! Duke/UNC/Mount Sinai/Northwestern

I would vote for Duke. I didn't apply there but it is truly world class. Go for it. Its warmer than Chicago and it will probably be cheaper. Additionally do you want to say that you went through that excruciating secondary for nothing?
