Hi everyone,

I am looking for advice on what percentage of MD schools I should apply to versus DO schools.

I am a nontraditional GPA reinventor. I started college rough with my first 2.5 years around a 2.0 GPA. During my reinvention, I took around 100 college credits with a physical therapy assistant degree at a 3.5 GPA (around 45ish credits), and the other 55 credits went to a Healthcare Administration degree with a 4.0 GPA. I also did a formal post bacc at a 3.75 GPA. Overall GPA is around a 3.2 with everything included.

I took the MCAT and scored a 509 (126, 127, 128, 128), I am currently studying for a possible retake

I have about 1500 hours of clinical experience, 1000 hours as a scribe, and 500 hours as a PTA
(Graduated from PTA school during COVID and decided to switch to pursue medical school that's why PTA hours are lower)

MY volunteer experience is a little lower with only about 150 hours. 100 hours at a hospital (nonclinical) and 50 hours doing various nonclinical volunteering

I have 2 LOR from the doctors I scribe with, 1 letter from a post-bacc professor, and a committee letter

I am currently working on my application and plan on applying to my state MD and DO schools.

Should I focus on applying to more MD or DO schools?

With a strong trend like that you can probably split the difference tbh. You're a bit low on volunteer hours though.

How many credits was the formal post bacc in? Were they all BCPM classes? The healthcare administration credits are not going to help you much most likely.

It was 36 credits with all of them being BCPM courses

Agree on your hours - particularly non-clinical. You'll need 100 more minimum in that bucket. Would also recommend 50 shadowing hours. I agree with an even-ish split

What is your state of residency?

Your turnaround in grades is good, but most of the schools that reward reinvention look for a lot of non-clinical/service hours.
Pa. I live in one of the Geisinger Med School counties. I did my post-bacc at one of the schools in my state that has a med school

Do you think I should retake the MCAT?

No, I agree with Faha's list. Your best chances are at some of the PA schools, especially Geisinger, the new MD schools and DO.
