    Comlex 2: Misery loves company!

Same situation. Same rankings in performance categories. Same score. Strange to me, too.

    interviews?

I have interviews at Rush in Chicago, IU at Chicago, and Ohio State. Got 2 "application received" type letters from 2 Harvard programs.

    anesthesia assistant

As a future DO, I can tell you that decision to become a DO versus an MD is much more than just "do OMM or don't do OMM". There really IS a difference in the way we are being taught versus students who are attending the allopathic schools are being taught. I don't believe that DOs are the...

Helpful Clinical I and Pharm study aids?

There are pharmacology study cards called PharmCards. They are really good study aids. I'm a year 2 medical student and they seem to have lots of good information. I'm not sure how much of it you would need to know, but I assume you'd need just as much as med students would.

    omm at other schools

Maybe I can help... Functional technique is, as SouthPaw described, a method of manipulation in which the body segment is taken to ease in all planes of motion. Johnston is the current guru on this technique and has a book published called Functional Technique (amazingly creative, huh?). It...

    Most Allopathic Curriculum/Character?

If you are so worried about going to a DO school that is like an MD school, then you shouldn't go to a DO school at all. It really chaps my a** when people go DO because they can't get into an MD school... If that's the case, I hope you don't get accepted... If that's not the case...

    how does OMT help allegeries/asthma?

Wow, guys. Such cynicism from DO medical students. I'm disappointed... I chose to become a DO based on the philosophy that the body can inherently heal itself. The use of manipulation is aimed at that goal. The body cannot heal itself if it is not operating at maximal efficiency. When...

    Manual medicine texts

Greenman's text is awesome. I'm a 2nd year osteopathic medical student and have looked at and studied many OMT textbooks and have found Greenman to be the best. It combines theory, pertinent anatomy, and many techniques for each body region. There are other books out there that are strong in...

Southpaw... Is it that HVLA gives instant results, or instant gratification? I think most docs use HVLA cause it's quick and the patient gets "gratified" because they hear a popping/cracking noise that is often associated with chriopractic/manipulative treatment. I've used indirect...

    Omm

All the previous posts refer to cervical HVLA. The thing we learned is that there are many other techniques (LAR, FPR, Counterstrain, ME, Soft Tissue) that can be employed in the cervical area that are just as effective as HVLA but much less worrisome. I personally like the alternatives to...

I think it is very sad that you are learning to "treat" patients this early in the first year of OMT without having first been taught how to properly diagnose the areas you are treating. The remainder of your OMT career will depend heavily on your accurate diagnose of the problem the patient...

    Osteopathic Psychiatry?

I am a 2nd year student who is very interested in psychiatry. I think the osteopathic philosophy of whole body healing is very suitable to the study of psychiatry. I spoke to a residency director at a traditionally allopathic clinic and when she heard I was going to be a DO someday, she...
