i went to UNECOM and am in an allopathic EM residency at UCONN. There are a few other DOs in the program from NOVA, NYCOM, AZCOM. I don't think it matters which DO school you go to, just do well, work hard, shine on the boards and your rotations and you'll be all set.
I had a patient tell me that the vaginal discharge she'd started getting since she'd started cheating on her husband smelled like a dead chicken.
Then she proceeded to hold up a plastic bag which contained her underwear so that I could smell for myself.
I declined...yuck. All I could...
Both good schools, Unecom was a good education but seriously I would consider weather as a major factor. Maine is very cold, so if that's your thing, then go there...if you prefer the heat, go to Nova, that's a great school too.
I've been putting it off but need to get started with this too, since i'm almost half way into 2nd year. guess i keep hoping those 5 states will do away with the whole thing any time now.
I wouldn't worry about applying to both, just have some response prepared if they ask you about it and which one you'd prefer.
I think I said something about how becoming a doctor was what was most important to me, no matter MD or DO....it worked.
Good luck!
Advice from a recent UNECOM grad:
Don't study before you start!!! Enjoy the little free time you have left! trust me on this one!
I went all 4 year w/out ever buying a laptop. I had a desktop at my apt and this was fine. It's a theoretical requirement but certainly not necessary...
many of my classmates matched in specialties other than primary care. I'm a PGY-1 in an allopathic Emergency Medicine program. There were about 7 others who matched in EM, a few in surgery allopathic programs, a few to radiology, quite a few to allopathic anesthesia, a couple derm. It is...
I didn't use any of my undergrad bio, chem, or physics book for medical school. I guess some are good to hold onto, but I'd try to sell some on ebay so you'll have more $ for med school books.
Hi there...I just wanted to write because I remeber feeling just like you before I started medical school...didn't want to take the MCAT again, etc. I didn't look at NYCOM but have some friends that went there and they are doing just great in the specialty of their choice. I just graduated...
since no one has replied I figured I would..
I interview there last year and to tell you the truth was not too impressed at all. I actually didn't rank them at all because I decided I'd rather not match than end up there.
you might feel otherwise though so take it with a grain of salt...
