what to do when the surgeon DOESNT ask you questions

The doc I've been with for the past week pretty much keeps to himself - doesn't really talk at anyone, other than snapping at the nurses every now and then. So, I make a point to get to the OR before him, review the chart, and then ask questions. And, by that point in time, the OR nurses are...

    Rads vs. Cards

Hi all. I'm almost at my end of my first year of medical school, and so far, radiology and cardiology have jumped out at me as possible residency choices. I know it's early, but my school recommends that we have a residency choice in mind by late second year so we can schedule our clerkship...

    Salaries

I'm not exactly sure, but I would think it would depend pretty heavily on the individual school and the specialty. A radiologist, for example, at a hospital that is owned or closely tied to the University might only get one cheque. Anybody else know more than me about this?

    USC vs Northwestern

I don't have an answer or an opinion for you, but I moved this thread from the MD/PhD forum. It's more appropriate here. You'll also get more replies here.

    MSTP vs MD

I'll look into it. Give me some time to look into it. If any of you have any questions/concerns about the board, PM me or email me. I try to check here daily, but during exams...

    MSTP vs MD

I'd agree. This is always something of a crapshoot, but you said above you have a strong background in research, so I think you are well set. Good luck...

    american requirements

I haven't posted in this forum in a while, but I want to assure all of you that I do read it... :) Med school has a way of cutting into SDN time, unfortunately. ;) Anyway. MSTP as a Canadian citizen without permanent residency status in the U.S. is pretty complicated. There are only a...

Canadian MD grads V. US ones

I've heard that a lot, ponyboy. In particular, in IM, where the residency in Canada is 5 years, compared to the usual 3 in the States, Canadians do very well in fellowship competitions. I'm still curious as to how Canadian med school grads do in residency matches. Do you have any idea...

Canadian MD grads V. US ones

Oh, right. Missed that one. :) Yes, it is a good point. But given that the Canadian and American systems of training medical students (both in med school and as premeds) are identical, then I think it should mean something. But again, it's really pretty difficult to make any kind of...

Canadian MD grads V. US ones

Yes, there are other countries that have lower admissions percentages than Canada or the US. But this post is trying to compare Canadian med grads versus American grads. I don't see how other countries are relavent to this discussion. And second of all... I was looking at the NRMP matches...

Canadian MD grads V. US ones

Yes, Canadian grad rates are in the 95% + range. Not in the 70-80% range. I don't know if I agree with that completely, but still. That said, medical admissions in Canada are much more competitive. There are far less spots per applicant up here. And there is plenty of anecdotal evidence...

MS1s that HAVE started med school!!

Does anyone else hate histology? :) I obviously have no future as a pathologist. I just can't take any more looking at slides...

MS1s that HAVE started med school!!

Hmm. It sounds like there is a story behind this that you should share with the class... Anyone else agree? ;)
