    Cataract surgery

Most practices I know "bundle" femto with their premium options. I agree regarding disposable income. If dentists can charge 50k for veneers, why can't we charge for good vision for life?

    Cataract surgery

Lol same as light box. Not even the LAL reps have a good argument what the laser adds.

    2024 Ophthalmology Statistics Released

I wouldn't worry about cms cutting ophthalmology further for doing 10 minute cataract surgery. The national payment is around 500... for surgery and 90 days od postoperative care. Once you factor in overhead, you get like a couple hundred for a vision restoring surgery and several postop visits...

    Demand of various subspecialties

We have a "neuro optometrist" nearby who is quite busy with their cash only practice. They are fairly competent with their medical recommendations and do great prisms. They also do some vision therapy and their patients seem to love them. I much prefer sending neuro patients to them over the...

Projector + mirror vs digital screen in short rooms

You must use a mirror if you do refraction.

    Demand of various subspecialties

I know a "neuro-optometrist" who takes cash only and is doing ok. How much do you think patients would be willing to pay?

    Demand of various subspecialties

I wouldn't worry about demand as far as job prospects and security. The demographics are heavily in favor of ophthalmology in the foreseeable life our our career. Do what you think you might like. Yes there is a large shortage of peds, neuro, uveitis...because not enough people are doing...

    Private equity starting salary

I guess that's true. However. What proportion of people do you know join a private practice for a chance to be a real partner/owner and it works out? 75%? 50%? 25%? Is it more likely to work out in a large group with 5+ partners/owners (who have mostly cashed out) or a solo doc who's never had...

    Private equity starting salary

That sounds like a good starting salary to me...are many private practices starting their associates that high? I heard RGW used to offer <200k. They would not suddenly offer double just because they're now PE owned.

    Private equity starting salary

They will only do what they'll do. This is the real life part where the young prospective employee has to convince the employer they're worth the investment.

    Private equity starting salary

Other thing is new graduates are unproven so may not justify a large base salary at the beginning when they are not yet ready to see patients/do surgery. There have been recent discussions about new grads who can't operate efficiently not being allowed to operate/being let go.

    Private equity starting salary

How long has the position been vacant? Some will offer a higher guarantee if there is an impending or recent departure and they'll lose a lot of patients if they don't get a body in there asap. If the position has been vacant for a few years, the patients will have gone elsewhere. Has the...
