A Big Review of California IM Programs

I'd say that the assessment of USC is pretty accurate except for the number of call months. Most interns have 9- 4 week blocks of call. Some others have 10 4 week blocks. Clinical breadth by far the widest in so cal, maybe 2nd to UCSF only. They have the largest county hospital, and also a...

help, going into consulting and not doing residency

Please also consider lifestyle... in Medicine, residency hours suck but definitely improve in late R2-R3. in consultng, there is usually a lot of traveling in the big firms and ESPECIALLY IF U WANT TO GET THE PROJECTS THAT INTEREST YOU (during recruitment most firms say travel 40-60&#37...

What would you do if you had to pay tuition for Residency?

I definitely would say this is incorrect as regarding lawyer salary straight out of law school. Most corporate law firms (and believe me there are many) START their grads at 120k first year outta school. And its definitely true that most are still learning on the job. Now, it takes about 6-10...

    so-cal programs

Spaceman, although i'm not applying for internal medicine, I am a student at a los angeles school (go bruins!) so I rotated through a whole bunch of hospitals affiliated with our school and worked closely with housestaff, and of course all the students talk bout their residents. :) I think...

    Patient contact in Radiology

Interesting to see what a poll would show, whether most radiologists truly want to avoid patient contact as much as possible.

Is radiology in danger of being outsourced?

reading this thread, good discussion and some interesting points. honestly I it's hard to predict the future for any medical specialty, but radiology is in its growth phase and thus not in as much danger as some other specialties.

applying to more than one specialty?

I also thought about doing this, as wasn't sure where my application stood. However, you have to understand that for the match, if you apply somewhere and rank it and get that place in rank, then the PROG will be expecting YOU as a BODY at their institution. going back on an agreement (for...

    Sweating the Next Week

I agree with the above poster. THe competition is definitely fierce as I've fond out over my interviews, but to a certain extent there's a degree of randomness. I mean we've done the work, and its all outta our hands. stay positive and hope for your top 3! that's all we can do :)

Bush cuts medicare reimbursment for internship/residency

i just read this thread, and i think someone wrote the total annual reimbursement for programs is 100k/resident??? how is that possible if we are only getting 42k/ yr??? Where does the rest of the money go?

impressions of cedars sinai and surrounding socal IM programs?

I'm a UCLA student so I can give some examples of the program. Its pretty friendly place because the interns are relaxed overall. ICU is the strong points, but the ward medicine months are Cedars are pretty poor (very few good teaching cases). combo w/ va has strengthened the program...
