Match Results - Tell Us Where You're Going

CPMC for prelim rocks! Just noted that they only officially round with attending once a week, otherwise you just chat with attending about your patients on the phone. The worst part of medicine avoided. Sweet.

    So Curious

Does MGH frequently not match or is this year exceptional. Everyone I know who interviewed there had only negative things to say...very cocky program so maybe good for them. I know it was good for UCSF not to match (at least good for the residents) last year, made them really reevaluate and...

Assessing Chances of Admission at Competitive Programs

I wouldn't bother doing an away at UCSF. They have a strict USMLE cutoff for interviewing and they won't give you an interview even if rotated there. Not sure what the cutoff is but I have friends who rotated there (both with Step 1s in 220ish I think) and neither got interviews even though at...

    Contact from programs

so i'll admit to perhaps overindulging in some braggery with my last post and apologize for offending anyone. It is the anonymous nature of this forum and, as you astutely pointed out, the fact that it is the one gathering place for colleagues who truly understand and appreciate the blood...

Interesting perspective by ASA president, Dr. Lema

unless there was something i missed i did not take the comment on productivity in the presentation to mean that women should be blamed for problems in the future with anesthesia. advancing technology and pure market forces (cheaper labor wins) are to blame for that. i do believe it is true...

Interesting perspective by ASA president, Dr. Lema

Very interesting and definately a good read for all of us entering the field. i first heard about a lot of us when visiting ucsf, dr. miller is a huge proponent of anesthesiologists needing to move into the field of critical care in large numbers to ensure the large scale survival of our specialty.

    USC program

Big issue for me (although maybe not important to a lot of people) is that there is really no anesthesia research going on at USC which is different compared to every other program in Cali. You will get tons and tons of trauma there if you really like that. One area of relative weakness is...

    Contact from programs

Also got letter plus phone call from Stanford Chairman....loved that. Wondering if UCSF contacts applicants in any way other than the Miller form letter. Hey Chips, where are you thinking of going? I'm having a tough time with my rank list and am interested in what others are choosing.

    Contact from programs

does everyone who interviewed at ucsf get the dr. miller letter? anyone? i'm just curious because it looks a little form-lettery

    Contact from programs

Apparently I need to clarify...what I was referring to was the fact that some people were saying something to the effect that people should not be foolish enough to, for instance, rank a certain program number 1 solely because that program sent them a warm fuzzy letter. I just thought people...

    Contact from programs

Wait a minute...am I reading this all wrong, I didn't see anyone saying they were ranking their previously last place choice first just because they sent them a nice note. I think we are not giving our colleagues enough credit to think that we are all swayed so easily. I guess I would be...
