PinnacleHealth Ortho is a big disappointment

Sounds like a resident who is unhappy with his or her program posting as a "friend of a resident who is unhappy with their program".

    Residency Schedule

Get rid of the idea of working less than 80 hours per week. We all write that stuff on our hours logs but that isn't reality. Also, you won't get many sundays off but you'll get 4 weekend days off per month. Usually one golden weekend of magic.

Interest in both Ortho and Optho

I believe, in severely displace, intra-articular calcaneus fractures the rate of post traumatic arthritis requiring eventual fusion is high. The study below showed that patients have a better outcome if they perform a sub-talar fusion as part of the initial management...

    So, I'm undecided ...

Houston is the 4th largest city in the country but it isn't in the midwest. Which city are you talking about, Chicago?

    from general surgery to ortho

Several points: 1. All ortho programs require an SICU month. Mine required a MICU month as well. 2. Consultant specialists are supposed to focus on a specific problem. We're not going to comment on a patient's cardiac output when we're consulted to deal with a fracture. 3. The reason the...

Ortho vs ER on YouTube - A Rebuttal

I definitely had an ER resident admit an otherwise healthy 69 year old to medicine last night. haha. The medicine residents are all FMGs and they friggin love working up everything...even normal labs. But, last call they consulted us for a rash near a bone.

    The GS swagger

It is an antalgic gait mixed with a post-traumatic 1000 yard stare.

    Orthopedic surgery vs. dermatology

Hmm. Well, would you rather fix the car or just lube it up and dry it off?

    First rotation, fellow interns?

This worked for about 1 30 hour call period and then I quickly realized that a) nurses have an inferior understanding of physiology and b) they really, really like to treat numbers rather than pathology. In the ICU you'll quickly see through the haze of novelty and begin to think of multi-organ...

    Trauma Surgery worse than GenSurg?

Hip fractures and, I believe, pelvic fractures show better outcomes if a medicine consultant has done their stuff.

the long white coat psych out

The key to diliniating the white coat wearers is easy if you make two observations. 1. What are they holding? If it is a clipboard then it is a nurse. 2. What is their BMI? >30? then it is a nurse.

Tuberosity avulsion injury of fifth metatarsal

Your ****s all ******ed. It is up in the joint. You gotta get that thing screwed. However, you're an American so I'd assume you're obese and have diabetes and it will probably never heal and you'll blame your surgeon. You should just get the cast and drive around on your HoverRound instead.
