I also got the alternate list letter today too. I agree it does seem like a pretty random process, although I do seem to be getting some consistent results (my 4th waitlist! wheeeee).

From reading the waitlist FAQ page I think tier 2 means you have a much lower chance, (thats me doh!). The page says that they approxmiate taking 12-50 ppl off the list this year, so I figure the chances are not that good, or at least not as good as at some other schools that traditionally have...

Just got the same problem except I had some other character count it was limiting me to. Also had some problems with special punctuation like apostrophes turning into escape codes in the text. I was using IE 5.01, so I decided to try some things that helped, might help some of yall or others...
