    Kaplan Tests

If you were a major company who was forced to offer a money back guarantee by market pressure, and you put in a clause that if they didn't improve from a Kaplan pre-test to the actual MCAT, then they'd get their money back, then you'd probably make the scores really low and test relaly hard too...

    Orgo-chem question

Only Hs assume the axial position in trans-decalin, so they must be referring to 1,3-diaxial hydrogen interactions. Perhaps they are emphasizing how minimal those interaction are, to support the preference of trans over cis. McMurray is generally a good book.

Biology and Chemistry books for MCAT

Zumdahl is a pretty good textbook. Chang has some good "random inserts" that seem to be good MCAT topics. But by far, the best general chemistry book for the MCAT is the Berkeley Review General Chemistry book. It will give you the text review you need and it has passages. Check eBay and see...

    Please Help

You completely forgot to add slots for screaming ans swearing. To adequately prepare for the MCAT, you must swear often and in public venues.

    Choosing a Prep Course

Actually, they get paid lots of money because certain pre-medicals students are desperate enough to pay them big bucks. A perfect example of a service that preys on the insecurities of pre-medical students is Inquarta. From what I can tell, the owner has never worked as a pre-medical advisor...

    Kaplan Tests

In another thread: A common opinion is that the scores are lower than actual scores, to make it appear that there was a significant improvement. If you can deal with this mentally, not taking the exam to indicate anything about your performance and abilities, then they are good exams.

    Choosing a Prep Course

I think that says it all about your opinion on this matter. The idea was to put up generic comments and give advice how to select a program. Based on your verbal performance, I assume you missed the point.

    berkeley review books

Their chemistry is the best book by far. Their physics seems about average. Their bio is a bit overkill. Their verbal is about average. The best part about the books though, is the fact that the answer explanations are really good. If you get their books, do it for the passages mostly...

    unnecessary material in review books

Every book has superfulous information. You have to get over it and just deal. Just because it is written, doesn't mean you have to read it. And it is definitely true that passages are FAR MORE IMPORTANT than reading. As for the Kaplan book recommendation, count me on the opposite side...

    review books

Comprehensive books lack some of the details needed to fully understand a subject. It really comes down to you. If you are brilliant at a topic, you don't need the review anyway, so why waste time with any book (comprehensive or detailed)? You just need to do passages. The most important...

    Chemistry Ques-Orbitals, electron density, etc.

Really, you think that posting and non-MCAT question in an MCAT forum might be the wrong place huh?

    Erasable pens okay for essays?

Ink must be black and it can't smear.

Anyone taking the mcat tomorrow @ SJSU,CA

Just find the crowd of tense people that starts gathering around 7:30 and follow it. Somehow, everyone manages to find the room on test day, so get good sleep and try not to worry about things other than what to do after the MCAT.

AAMC - THF & Toluene question

It's not that your Kaplan book is wrong persay, it's that they don't elaborate enough to cover this question. In an attempt to oversimplify, they have omitted a key point. Ethers cannot form H-bonds with themselves. They have a lone pair donor in oxygen, but all of the hydrogens on an ether...

MCAT retakers: Prep course or self-study???

You've been through a course once, and from what you say, didn't get that much out of it. What would you expect if you repeated a different course? It's all going to come down to you anyway. Even if the class you take has the greatest teachers you could imagine, you've already put enough time...
