How difficult is it to match into heme onc, PCCM, and cards from a low tier academic IM?

You should be able to get into a fellowship. It won't be MSKCC for heme/onc or Colorado for pulm/crit but it is more likely than not that you can match into at least a program.

US MD student applying IM 241 step2ck chances

You won't have issues matching into an academic program. I can guarantee that. Back in my day, 240 was the magic cutoff where you could say your score was competitive unless things have changed. Now, your shot at getting to Brigham or UCSF with that profile are probably on the lower side. But...

Do most people who match into T10 IM programs do aways there?

People matching into these top tier programs are not doing away rotations to these programs If you go to a top 30 medical school, matching 15+ students into top 10-15 programs is not necessarily anomalous. Just look at the match list for a place like Case Western Reserve which has no problem...

    IM for 2025 cycle

You're absolutely right. Its not necessarily a distinction of tiers of clinical training per se but perception of competitiveness of your chances and like you said, coastal programs are highly desired compared to its Sun Belt counterparts so its not going to be as hard to match into a program...

    IM for 2025 cycle

Emory isn't on the same tier as UPenn/BIDMC which agree are reach programs for you I would aim for programs like Vanderbilt/UTSW/Baylor/Emory/UNC/University of Washington/UPMC

Incoming first year - reading recommendations

Oh if I had a dollar for everytime someone asked if they should be reading anatomy and physiology textbooks before starting medical school ..... My recommendation would be The Plague by Albert Camus

    UTSW vs. Einstein

Wouldn't blame you for taking the free tuition. However, given your "enthusiasm" for living in NYC among other factors, 130K is really nothing in the grand scheme of things if you do end up being an ophthalmologist, as difficult as they may seem to grasp where you are in life right now and feels...

    Old post

Lol, yeah he did his undergrad in engineering followed by masters/Ph.D and then also has the MD to go along with it. My major produced about 30ish MDs. A few of them worked in the industry before getting MD but none that I can think of are utilizing their industry skills. A few have PhDs so they...

    UIC vs UTSW

Sorry but found this kinda amusing since I'm quite familiar with UTSW. Let's just say that the school has a wall where it honors the 6 Nobel Prize winners that worked/did research at the institution. UTSW is a research powerhouse. On pen and paper, this is not really a close comparison

Did BME for undergrad at Texas so somewhat familiar with your background. The one example from our faculty was an ophthalmologist in private practice doing just the normal private practice stuff like glaucoma surgeries and LASIK and in his other role taught one of our computer programming...

    Northwestern vs WashU

Honestly, I would let the finances dictate. You can't go wrong with either of these institutions.

The prestige factor is negligible when you're in the weight class of those programs that you listed

Help in identifying my top choice medical school + TMDSAS Ranking

I would not worry about only 1 matching into orthopedics last year. That is likely an outlier since they have no problem matching multiple people into orthopedics from prior years. The UTSW vs BCM debate is really a toss up. You cannot go wrong with either school. They are by far the top 2...
